TO:  ALL CLERGY AND FAITHFUL OF OUR HOLY UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE USA

RE:  CONSECRATION OF THE NEW CHAPEL AT ALL SAINTS CAMP AND THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CAMP

Dearly beloved Brothers and Sisters,

CHRIST IS RISEN!  INDEED HE IS RISEN!

It is with much anticipation and joy that we invite and encourage you all to participate in the upcoming celebration of the consecration of our newly constructed wooden Chapel at All Saints Camp and the 30th anniversary of the blessing of the Camp – both of which will take place on the weekend of 21-22 June at the campground complex in Emlenton, PA.  This will truly be another historical event in the life of our Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, which you surely will want to share in!

All Saints Camp was the dream of the youth of our Church those 30 years ago and when the site overlooking the Allegheny River in Western Pennsylvania appeared on the market, the membership of the Ukrainian Orthodox League stepped into action as the primary supporters and contributors to the effort of purchasing the property.  It was a well-developed camp in “move-in” condition.  The Metropolitan Council, our Church’s Board of Trustees, assigned responsibility for the management of this new Church property at first to the Western PA Region of the UOL and later a Camp Committee, consisting of representatives from any parish desiring to participate, took over the responsibility.  Prior to this accomplishment, our Youth Camping Ministry took place in rented camp space at a YMCA camp and at a Lutheran Camp.

Over the years many improvements have been made to the Camp – including new sleeping cabins; the Millennium Building, which houses further sleeping accommodations, class rooms and an enormous grand hall; a pavilion for religious and social events; a swimming pool and new tennis courts and a new mechanical workshop and storage facility.  All these are important additions, but the Chapel, which we will now consecrate, has been the dream of literally thousands of our church members who have visited the Camp over these 30 years.

Due to the incredible generosity of some, thus far, anonymous donors, this Chapel is now a reality.  They have contributed $500,000 for the construction of a wooden chapel similar to those found throughout the Western and Trans-Carpathian Regions of Ukraine.  In addition to the generosity of these donors, the Ukrainian Orthodox League of the USA has spearheaded the establishment and fulfillment of a fund in the amount of nearly $150,000 to complete the iconography (over 70 icons) for the interior of the Chapel and all the liturgical items and vestments necessary for worship.

Our Church’s Youth Camping Ministry is now administered by our Consistory Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and consists of our 50 year old Teenage Conference, our Church School Camp and our Mommy/Daddy and Me encampments, each of which lasts for two weeks during the summer.  In addition there are several retreats, seminars and family fests, which take place at the camp.  These programs have nurtured and encouraged generations of our youth in positive Christian living in the life of our Church.  Life-long friendships and even marriages have resulted from participation in these programs!  We have dedicated and devoted people who have given decades of their lives to the success of these programs and we will introduce them to you during this celebratory weekend.

We pray that you will find it possible to join with so many of your brothers and sisters at this celebration on 21-22 June 2008.  Our new Chapel is truly a gem in our Metropolia.   We ask all clergy to encourage their parish members to participate and we encourage all faithful to share the good news with fellow Church members!

May the Grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Love of God the Father and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
