In the season of the Nativity, when the world celebrates the birth of Christ - the embodiment of love, compassion, and hope - the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA (UOC of the USA) has extended the embrace of His love to the elderly and homebound displaced persons of Eastern Ukraine. Amidst the devastating reality of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, the Church has risen as a beacon of faith and service, delivering essential logistical items to those most vulnerable.

His Eminence Archbishop Daniel expressed profound gratitude to the Dean of Donetsk Deanery of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine – Very Rev. Fr. Kostyantyn Kuznetsov and his wife Natalia for their selfless dedication. "Fr. Kostyantyn and Natalia," he said, "you are the hands and feet of Christ, connecting the clergy and faithful of our Church in America with the suffering people of Ukraine. Your unwavering commitment reminds us all that, as Christians, we are called to love not in words, but in deeds. The light you bring to the darkness of war reflects the true spirit of Christmas."

Archbishop Daniel also extended heartfelt thanks to His Eminence Metropolitan Serhii of the Donetsk Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for his invaluable cooperation and blessings in these efforts. "Metropolitan Serhii, your guidance and partnership are a testament to the unity of our faith and the strength of our shared mission. Your steadfast care for the people of Eastern Ukraine amidst immense challenges exemplifies the love of Christ, and your prayers and blessings empower us to continue this sacred work."

At the same time, Archbishop Daniel delivered a powerful moral rebuke to Russia’s ongoing aggression. "The senseless attacks against Ukraine, especially targeting the elderly and the most vulnerable, are a blatant violation of the Gospel precepts and the instructions of the Lord and His holy apostles. Scripture commands us to care for widows, the elderly, and all in need. By choosing violence over compassion, Russia undermines the sanctity of God’s creation, demonstrating the true meaning of inhumanity."

He continued: "While the world increasingly values the sanctity of human life and strives to improve its quality, Russia’s actions stand in stark contrast—attacking with impunity, disregarding God’s commandments, and showing disdain for the very essence of Christ’s teachings. These atrocities not only harm the body but wound the soul, undermining the divine image in which we are all created."

This year’s Christmas initiative, carried out with the cooperation of Fr. Kostyantyn, delivered vital supplies such as warm clothing, blankets, medical kits, and hygiene items, along with heartfelt messages of encouragement from Ukrainian Orthodox faithful in America. These gifts, lovingly prepared, were not merely acts of charity but profound statements of solidarity and faith.

As we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, Archbishop Daniel called upon all faithful to continue this sacred mission. "Let us not grow weary in doing good. Ukraine needs us now more than ever, and our brothers and sisters need to know they are not forgotten. Each gift, each prayer, each donation is a testament to Christ’s love made manifest through His Church."

The UOC of the USA encourages everyone to join this effort to bring hope to Ukraine. Donations can be made to support these humanitarian efforts, ensuring that the elderly, the homebound, and the displaced are met with love and care during these trying times.

As the angels proclaimed on the night of Christ’s birth: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men" (Luke 2:14). Together, through prayer and action, we can bring this message to life and help Ukraine find peace and healing.

У пору Різдва Христового, коли світ святкує народження Христа – втілення любові, співчуття та надії – Українська Православна Церква США (УПЦ США) простягла обійми Його любові до людей похилого віку та вимушених переселенців Східної України. Серед нищівної реальності триваючої війни Росії проти України, Церква піднялася як маяк віри та служіння, доставляючи необхідні матеріально-технічні засоби для найбільш уразливих.

Високопреосвященніший архієпископ Даниїл висловив глибоку вдячність благочинному Донецького деканату Православної Церкви України – прот. Костянтину Кузнєцову та його дружині Наталії за самовіддану самовідданість. «Отче Костянтине та Наталіє, – сказав він, – ви є руками і ногами Христа, що з’єднуєте духовенство та вірних нашої Церкви в Америці зі стражденним народом України. Ваша непохитна відданість нагадує всім нам, що ми, як християни, покликані любити не на словах, а на ділі, яке ви несете в темряву війни, відображає справжній дух Різдва».

Архієпископ Даниїл також висловив сердечну подяку Високопреосвященнішому митрополиту Донецької єпархії Православної Церкви України Сергію за його неоціненну співпрацю та благословення в цих зусиллях. «Митрополите Сергію, ваше духовне керівництво та партнерство є свідченням єдності нашої віри та сили нашої спільної місії. Ваша непохитна турбота про народ Східної України серед величезних викликів є прикладом любові Христа, а ваші молитви та благословення зміцнюють нас продовжувати цю святу справу».

Водночас архієпископ Даниїл виступив із потужним моральним докором триваючій агресії Росії. «Безглузді напади на Україну, особливо проти людей похилого віку та найбільш незахищених верств населення, є грубим порушенням євангельських заповідей і настанов Господа та Його святих апостолів. Святе Письмо наказує нам дбати про вдів, старих та всіх нужденних. .. Вибираючи насильство над співчуттям, Росія підриває святість Божого творіння, демонструючи справжній сенс нелюдяності».

Він продовжив: «У той час як світ все більше цінує святість людського життя та прагне покращити його якість, дії Росії різко контрастують: безкарні напади, нехтування Божими заповідями та демонстрація зневаги до самої суті вчення Христа. Ці звірства не лише шкодить тілу, але ранить душу, підриваючи божественний образ, за ​​яким ми всі створені».

Цьогорічна різдвяна ініціатива, здійснена у співпраці з о. Костянтином доставила життєво необхідні речі, такі як теплий одяг, ковдри, медичні аптечки та засоби гігієни, разом із щирими посланнями підбадьорення від українських православних вірних в Америці. Ці дари, приготовані з любов’ю, були не просто актами милосердя, але глибокими заявами солідарності та віри.

Святкуючи народження Князя миру, архієпископ Даниїл закликав усіх вірних продовжувати цю священну місію. «Не втомлюймося творити добро. Україна зараз потребує нас як ніколи, а наші брати і сестри мають знати, що вони не забуті. Кожен дар, кожна молитва, кожна пожертва є свідченням любові Христа, яка проявляється через Його Церкву. ."

УПЦ США ​​заохочує всіх долучатися до цієї спроби нести надію Україні. Можна робити пожертви на підтримку цих гуманітарних заходів, щоб люди похилого віку, ті, хто залишився вдома, і переміщені особи отримували любов і турботу в ці важкі часи.

Як проголосили ангели в ніч народження Христа: «Слава на висоті Богу, і на землі мир людям благоволення» (Лк. 2:14). Разом, через молитву та дію, ми можемо втілити це послання в життя та допомогти Україні знайти мир та зцілення.
