I gasp as I catch my first glimpse of the majestic sunrise over the Spiritual Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in South Bound Brook, NJ. Speechless I stand on the steps of St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Memorial Church, gazing at the sunset moments in front of me. I spontaneously burst into song as flower petals and leaves flutter down from the trees in front of the Memorial of the Ukrainian American Veterans. 

Beauty. Majesty. Color. Life. Interconnectedness. Masterpieces of God’s creation! 

Nature presents us with the clearest picture of God's handiwork and creation. Personally, I feel close to God when I am surrounded by nature - His creation. Trees, mountains, flowers and waterfalls; they were not created by someone He created. God created this world to show His power and love for His creation.

Nature also causes me to feel God's presence because it directly reflects many of God's attributes. I can see God's beauty in the brilliant red and yellow flowers, the leaves of the trees, the rays of light in the sky, the gorgeous eyes, smiles, and faces of people from all around the world as they make their way through the numerous paths of the Spiritual center of the Church.

I feel close to God in nature because I see the beauty, power, magnificence and creativity of the creation surrounding me and I know who to thank. The Creator of the universe and all this marvelous nature surrounding me is the same God who loves me so deeply that He gave up His Son for my salvation, so we could spend eternity together. He is the same God who calls me His child, who formed me in my mother's womb, and who knows the number of hairs on my head and days I will live on this earth.

You see, God created beauty and the human spirit responds to the beauty He created. Whether it is a sunset or sunrise, blooming flowers or trees, a flowing stream or the beautiful expanse of the skies at night, all these things communicate to us the beauty and reality of God. 

Spending time appreciating nature and God's creation in all its different forms is a special way to meditate, reflect, pray and learn more about Him.  

As we honor God’s creation on this first day of September, my encouragement to you is to get out and enjoy the beauty of His creation. But also pick up a copy of the Holy Scriptures and read it so you can better get to know the One who created all this beauty and longs to have a deep relationship with you.

КРАСА БОЖОГО ТВОРІННЯ: Кілька митей з природою в Духовному Осередку УПЦ США

Я задихаюся, коли вперше бачу величний схід сонця над Духовним центром Української Православної Церкви США в Саут-Баунд-Бруку, штат Нью-Джерсі. Стою безмовний на сходах Української Православної церкви-пам'ятника св. Андрія, дивлячись на миті заходу сонця перед собою. Я спонтанно подумки програю мелодію, коли пелюстки квітів і листя тріпотять з дерев перед Меморіалом українським американським ветеранам.

Краса. Величність. Колорит. Життя. Взаємозв'язок. Шедеври Божого творіння!

Природа дає нам найяснішу картину Божого творіння. Особисто я відчуваю близькість до Бога, коли мене оточує природа – Його творіння. Дерева, гори, квіти та водоспади; вони не були створені кимось, а саме ним - Богом.

Бог створив цей світ, щоб показати Свою силу і любов до Свого творіння. Природа також змушує мене відчувати Божу присутність, оскільки вона безпосередньо відображає багато Божих властивостей. Я бачу Божу красу в блискучих червоних і жовтих квітах, листі дерев, променях світла в небі, чудових очах, посмішках і обличчях людей з усього світу, коли вони проходять через численні стежини Духовного осередку Церкви.

Я відчуваю близькість до Бога в природі, тому що бачу красу, силу, велич і креативність творіння, що оточує мене, і знаю, кому дякувати. Творець всесвіту та всієї цієї дивовижної природи, що оточує мене, є тим самим Богом, який любить мене так сильно, що віддав Свого Сина заради мого спасіння, щоб ми могли провести вічність разом. Він той самий Бог, який називає мене Своєю дитиною, який сформував мене в утробі моєї матері, і який знає кількість волосин на моїй голові та днів, які я проживу на цій землі.

Розумієте, Бог створив красу, і людський дух реагує на створену Ним красу. Будь то захід чи схід сонця, квітучі квіти чи дерева, поточний потік чи прекрасне нічне небо, усе це передає нам красу та реальність Бога.

Проводити час, оцінюючи природу та Боже творіння в усіх його різноманітних формах, — це особливий спосіб медитувати, розмірковувати, молитися та дізнаватися більше про Нього.

Оскільки ми вшановуємо Боже творіння цього першого дня вересня, я закликаю вас вийти і насолодитися красою Його творіння. Але також візьміть з собою Святе Письмо і прочитайте його, щоб краще пізнати Того, Хто створив усю цю красу і прагне мати з вами глибокі стосунки.
