Berlin in June is a composition of modern architecture, highlighted by historic buildings, accentuated by colorful riots of blooming roses.  This picturesque city over the months has become home for more and more Ukrainians who have been displaced due to the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine.

His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, Ruling Hierarch of the Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, and Consistory President, at the invitation of Bishop Dr. Christian Stäblein, Bishop of the Evangelical Church of Berlin, Brandenburg, and Silesian Upper Lusatia, Archbishop Daniel met with the representatives of the Evangelical Church and from Berliner Missionerwerk.  The “Berlin Missionary Society” supports churches and development projects in the Middle East, in Africa, East Asia, Cuba, North America and Europe.

Stating their unequivocal support for Ukraine in her current struggle for freedom, the group discussed how they can best assist Ukrainian refugees who have arrived in Berlin.  Expressing his gratitude to those gathered, as well as to the German government and citizens for their support and willingness to assist Ukrainians in their hour of need, Archbishop Daniel explained that Ukrainians are a spiritual people, with a strong faith in God.  What they need most at the moment is a place where they can gather and give thanks to the Lord for their lives, and to pray for the salvation of those whom they left behind, and those who are fighting to protect their homeland.

His Eminence also explained that the refugees would benefit from a home base where they can pray, where they can gather for commemorations, where they can be free to celebrate their Faith, follow their customs and live their traditions.   It is also vital for them to be able to establish some sense of normalcy for their traumatized children by providing them Ukrainian Kindergarten and Sunday School classes. 

Archbishop Daniel expressed his deep appreciation to the Evangelical (Lutheran) Church of Germany for willingly and generously cooperating with the UOC of the USA and the Ecumenical Patriarchate in providing spiritual care for his Ukrainian flock.  In particular, His Eminence expressed gratitude for permitting the Ukrainian community to utilize the St. Thomas Church in Berlin for their purposes.

Before the meeting concluded, Dr. Bischof Christian Stäblein assured Archbishop Daniel that they are ready and eager to work together in a joint mission to provided assistance to the Ukrainians in Germany. 

On Sunday, July 17^th, Archbishop Daniel will celebrate Liturgy and pray for Ukraine from the St. Thomas Church in Berlin, where his flock will gather around him and join their voices to his, and along with any guests, pray for peace in Ukraine.

Берлін. Відбувається архієпастирський візит керуючого Православної Єпархії  у Західній Європі Української Православної Церкви у Діаспорі Вселенського Патріархату архієпископа Даниїла Зелінського.

Сьгодні на запрошення Bischof Dr. Christian Stäblein відбулась офіційна зустріч з представниками Evangelische Kirche Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz (EKBO) та Berliner Missionerwerk.

Німецька сторона виразила повну підтримку народу України в його протистоянні.

У свою чергу владика Даниїл подякував всій Немеччині і її уряду в тій допомозі, яку вони надають.

В ході бесіди обговорювались питання, щодо духовної опіки українців в Німеччині. Так виникла потреба в душпастирському служінні українського духовенства в Західній Європі. Гостро стоїть питання в богослужбових приміщеннях, де б українці мали змогу збиратись на молитву та проводити духовно-просвітницькі заходи. Є потреба і  в створенні українських садочків та Недільних шкіл. Владика Даниїл підкреслив відкритість та всеохоплюючу допомогу Евангелистичної(Лютеранської) Церкви Німеччини у співпраці з УПЦ в Діаспорі Вселенського Патріархату. Так зокрема, в цій співпраці було надано для богослужінь та створення українського осередку приміщення ST. Thomas Kirche Berlin.

Bischof Dr. Christian Stäblein запевнив, що вони готові і надалі до спільної міссії та допомоги українцям в Німеччині.
