Archbishop Daniel Consecrates Sacramento, CA’s Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Mission’s church

On Sunday, May 20, 2018, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of the Western Eparchy of the UOC of the USA consecrated Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sacramento, CA.

The newly appointed pastor of Holy Trinity mission community, Very Rev. Fr. Myroslav Turchak along with Very Rev. Fr. Heorhiy Tyapko (pastor of Holy Archangel Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church in San Francisco, CA) and Fr. Myron Korostil (South Bound Brook, NJ), participated in the Rite of Consecration, which included the placing of relics into the holy altar table, and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Subdeacons Ihor Protsak, Mykola Zomchak and Yurii Bobko, seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary chanted the responses to the liturgical Divine Services.

In his homily, Archbishop Daniel referred to the consecration as “a dedication and a commitment” to continue following Christ after a century of faithful service and witness of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the United States of America.  He noted that while a church is a building, it is a building “with a soul,” for it is the People of God “who are the soul of this building through their faith, sacrificial service and perseverance and their love of Christ and one another.”  It is precisely this, he continued that “turns these bricks and mortar into a spiritual oasis for all who are weary and heavy laden.”

At the conclusion of the Liturgy, Archbishop Daniel presented Archpastoral Blessed Certificates to various parishioners in recognition of their devoted service to the Church and the newest mission of the UOC of the USA.

A festive banquet featuring local Sacramento, CA Ukrainian folk dancing and singing followed.

Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Mission was formally established in February of 2017 by a small group of Ukrainian Orthodox immigrants who settled in Sacramento, CA Metropolitan area.  With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, the mission initially held their services in various homes of parishioners with the first Divine Liturgy celebrated in the newly purchased building for the mission in November of 2017.

During its yearlong history, the mission has experienced a major revival amongst its faithful and the wider Northern California community, staying faithful to its mission to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
