Archbishop Daniel Attends the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Ukrainian World Congress
On 16 September 2017, the Ukrainian community in the United Sates of America, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC). The event was organized by UWC member organization – the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America led by Andriy Futey.
His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, assisted by Rev. Fr. Vasyl Pasakas, Assistant Dean of Students of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, participated in the one-day conference and jubilee banquet at New York City’s Princeton club. Delivering short remarks and a benediction, Vladyka Daniel briefly reflected upon the legacy of UWC and called upon those in attendance to further the mission of the organization in the ever-challenging geopolitical economic, political and religious reality.
Among the invited speakers were the former First Lady of Ukraine Kateryna Yuschenko and the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine General Vasyl Hrytsak. In his address, UWC President Eugene Czolij noted the accomplishments of the UWC throughout its history of one half century, highlighted the priorities of the UWC for the future and called upon the Ukrainian community in the United Sates of America to continue working with the UWC, primarily in supporting Ukraine in the defense of its territorial integrity.
The commemorative program included several greetings of community leaders. The Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States of America Mr. Valeriy Chaly delivered a greeting from the President of Ukraine.
