Закликаємо припинити насильство в Україні

Дорогі брати і сестри у Христі!

В Україні критично погіршилися ситуація. В м. Києві силовики захопили майдан вживаючи гранати, автомати та іншу бойову зброю. Люди гинуть, тисячі поранених з обох сторін. В Івано-Франківську, Тернополі та Львові люди захопили міські ради і вимагають щоб збройні сили та міліція підтримали опозицію.

У Києві опозиція просить президента щоб він забрав беркутів і розпочaв мирні переговори. Від президента поки що нічого не чути і кроваві сутички ще досі продовжуються.

Українська Православна Церква США просить владу припинити насильство над Українським народом і вiднoвити мирні демократичні переговори!

Ми знову нагадуємо, що шляхи для вирішення конфліктних питань повинні бути дипломатичні та врівноважені. Потрібна сміливість, щоб вийти поза межі конфлікту та брати до уваги людьську гідність інших так, щоб єдність переважала над конфліктом - і саме тоді можна буде будувати шлях до співрозуміння над розбіжностями та конфліктами. Політична демагогія, жорстокість і насильство повинні бути негайно припинені.

Ми поділяємо заклопотаність законодавців та громадян щодо забезпечення безпекою українських протестувальників, а також співробітників міліції і військовослужбовців у ці часи великої невизначеності та небезпеки.

Діалог повинен переважати і стати позитивним знаком миру, і ми надіємось на те, що обидва - урядові чиновники та лідери української опозиції, з-за підтримки міжнародного співтовариства, прийматимуть сміливі рішення, спрямовані на пошук справедливого і міцного врегулювання конфлікту, який потрібно терміново зупинити.

Пам'ятайте, демократичне майбутнє країни залежатиме від діалогу і можливості слухати голосу громадян України. Дуже важливо, щоб логіка і спокій переважaли. Фізична сила ніколи не дасть успіху в усуненні вільної волі і голосу громадян! Всі керівники та громадяни української нації повинні, як Святий Павло нагадує нам, зодягнути себе в "милосердя, доброту, покору, лагідність та терпіння.» (Кор. 3:12)

Violence Must Stop Immediately

Dear Brothers and Sister in the Lord!

The political situation in Ukraine has become even more critical. In the capital city of Kyiv, armed forces have attacked in an attempt to capture the Maydan (the main city square) by force using grenades and other explosive weapons. People are dying and hundreds have been injured amongst both the demonstrators and government forces. In the cities of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Lviv demonstrators have seized city halls and demand that police and armed forces of the region join in support of the opposition.

In Kyiv, the opposition has asked the President to remove the “Berkut” special forces by the morning and to resume peaceful negotiations. The President has, thus far remained silent as the bloodshed continues to escalate.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA joins in this petition to the authorities, to halt the assault on the Ukrainian people and to begin peaceful democratic negotiations.

We solemnly remind all that the way to resolve conflicts must be through diplomacy and dialogue. Courage is necessary to go beyond the boundaries of the conflict and to look at other with human dignity, so that in that dignity unity might prevail over conflict. In that dignity, only, will it be possible to build a path to common understanding and the end of conflicts. The political demagoguery, brutality and abuse must cease immediately.

We share the concern of lawmakers and citizens for the safety of Ukrainian protestors and also of police and military personnel in these times of great uncertainty and danger.

Dialogue must prevail and become a positive sign of peace and we express our hope that both the government officials and leaders of the opposition will resolve, with the support of the international community, to make courageous decisions aimed at finding a just and lasting solution to a situation, which must end now.

Ukraine is not a “third-world” nation. We must remember that the nation’s democratic future will depend on dialogue and the ability to listen to voice of its people. It is essential that logic and calm prevail. No amount of force will ever succeed in eliminating free will and the voice of the nation’s citizens! All the leaders and citizens of the Ukrainian nation must, as Saint Paul reminds us, clothe themselves in “heartfelt mercy, kindness, humility, meekness and patience.” (Col. 3:12)
