UOC of the USA Announces Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Constantinople

Jerusalem, the Holy City! Since the earliest days of Christianity, pilgrims have made their way to this place. In 2014, we will follow in the ancient and venerated footsteps of these faithful Christians.

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, the Prime Hierarch of the UOC of the USA, His Grace Bishop Daniel of the Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA will lead Sacred Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Constantinople on November 10-22, 2014, the Consistory office announced today. The 13-day visit to the most significant sites of the New Testament is being coordinated by Bishop Daniel and clergy of the UOC of the USA.

"This pilgrimage, second in turn and hopefully another of many to the Holy Land for our Metropolia, will send down the blessing of God, not only on all of those participating, but on our entire Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Council of Bishops of the Church has given a blessing and encourages all of our clergy and parishes to promote such pilgrimages, both to Holy Land and other holy sites, which facilitate our coming closer to God. By traveling to the Holy Land this time around, we will literally walk in the steps of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ. I sincerely pray that the Almighty One will bless us traveling, keep us safe and bring us all closer to Him during the time of the year that in the United States of America we offer gratitude to God for the blessing received," said His Grace Bishop Daniel.

During the course of the pilgrimage, the group from the Metropolia will have the opportunity to visit and pray at the Tomb of Lazarus, Cana, Mt. Tabor - the site of the Lord's Transfiguration, the River Jordan, the Mount of Olives, the Upper Room and Gethsemane, as well as the sites of the Lord's suffering on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. The pilgrimage will culminate with the group's participation in the Divine services and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

"The sacred sites in the Holy Land are the place where the Bible comes to life for Christians," explained the bishop.

In addition, Bishop Daniel and the pilgrims, will be received by His Holiness Patriarch Theophilus III of Jerusalem. While in Constantinople the pilgrims of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in addition to various historic sites, will visit the Hagia Sophia – St. Sophia (Holy Wisdom) Cathedral and the Patriarchate of Constantinople, concluding with a private audience with his All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.

“As we travel together, we will worship and learn. We will visit sites where Christ the Savior walked, where He taught and prayed. We will discover the images that He used to illustrate His parables. We will come closer to understanding Him as we gain understanding of world in which He conducted His ministry…” said the bishop.

“I hope many of you will accompany us on this spiritual pilgrimage. This will not be a commercial tour! This will be a true Faith experience and I would consider it a privilege to have you with us…” - concluded His Grace Bishop Daniel.

УПЦ США оголошує паломництво на Святі Землі та до Константинополя

Єрусалим, Святе місто! З перших днів християнства, паломники здійснили свій шлях до цього місця. У 2014 році ми будемо слідувати стародавніми та шанованими стопами цих вірних християн.

З благословення Високопреосвященнішого Митрополита Антонія, Первоієрарха УПЦ США, Преосвященний єпископ Західної єпархії Української Православної Церкви США Даниїл запрошує на Священне Паломництво до Святих Земель та Константинополя з 10-22 листопада 2014 року, як оголосив сьогодні відділ зовнішніх зв'язків Церкви. 13-денний візит до найбільш значущих місць Нового Завіту координується єпископом Даниїлом і духовенством УПЦ США.

"Це паломництво здійснюється вдруге, у свою чергу й на Святі Землі, і ми сподіваємося, що ще неодноразово наша Митрополія, отримає благословення, не тільки для тих, хто бере участь, але й всій нашій Українській Православній Церкві. Собор Єпископів Церкви дав благословення і закликає все наше духовенство та парафії заохочувати до таких паломництв, як до Святої Землі, так і до інших святих місць, які зближують нас з Богом. Подорожуючи на Святі Землі цього разу, ми в буквальному сенсі будемо ходити стопами Господа, Бога і Спаса нашого Ісуса Христа. Я щиро молюся, щоб Всемогутній поблагословив наші подорожі, тримав нас в безпеці і привів нас ближче до Себе, особливо в чac рoкy кoли в Сполучених Штатах Америки ми приноситимeмо подяку Богу за отримані благословення ",- сказав єпископ Даниїл.

Під час паломництва, група з Митрополії матиме можливість відвідати і помолитися на могилі Лазаря, г. Фавор - місце Господнього Преображення, річку Йордан, та гору Оливну, світлиці Гефсиманії, а також місце страждання Господа у Великий четвер і Страсну п'ятницю. Паломництво завершиться участю групи в богослужінні Архиєрейської Божественної літургії в церкві Гробу Господнього.

"Священні місця на Святій Землі є місцем, де живе Біблія для християн",- пояснив єпископ.

Крім того, єпископ Даниїл та паломники, будуть мати зустріч з Святійшим Патріархом Феофілом III в Єрусалимі. У той час як у Константинополі паломники Української Православної Церкви США на додаток до різних історичних місць, відвідають Хаґію Софію - Собор Св. Софії (Премудрості Божої) і Константинопольський Патріархат, будучи в приватній аудієнції зі своїм Святійшим Вселенським Патріархом Варфоломієм I.

"Під час подорожі, ми будемо молитовно поклонятися і навчатися. Ми відвідаємо місця, де Христос Спаситель ходив, де Він вчив і молився. Ми відкриємо для себе картини зображення, які Він використовував для ілюстрування Своїх притч. Ми прийдемо до розуміння Його, так як ми здобули розуміння світу, в якому Він провадив Своє служіння ... ", - сказав єпископ.

"Я сподіваюся, що багато хто з вас будуть супроводжувати нас у цьому духовному паломництві. Це не буде комерційний тур! Це буде справжній досвід у вірі, і я буду вважати за честь, вашу присутність... ", - завершив єпископ Даниїл.
