Statement of the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA
Veterans Day - 2013!
Monday, November 11, 2013 is Veterans Day. On this day we remember all those who are currently serving and those who have served this great country we live in. This day invites us to remember the men and women who have put themselves in harm’s way to defend our way of life and the values we hold dear. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to those killed in the line of duty, those still suffering from the effects of their generous response to the Nation’s call, and, of course, everyone who has retired from active duty.
On this Veterans Day 2013, the Council of Bishops, clergy and laity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, express profound gratitude to Ukrainian American Veterans and all those veterans, whose service in the armed forces preserved the foundation of freedom, justice and equality, upon which this country was founded and remains anchored.
As the nation pauses on November 11 to observe Veterans Day, let us all give thanks for our 25 million military veterans, thanking God for their sacrifice, dedication and service to country. Let us pray for those who struggle with disabilities and pain, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, asking God to bring powerful healing and renewal.
May their service and sacrifices of love inspire us and generations of Americans of divers heritage to always act as God’s responsible agents of freedom, justice and equality and be courageous in the defense of the God-given rights of others.
May the Lord God accept the service of those living Veterans on His Heavenly Altar!
May the memory of those who have fallen asleep remain and be cherished from generation unto generation!
So, on this Veterans Day weekend let us say to all the veterans serving all over the world, “Thank you for your service”!
