Seminarians of St. Sophia Seminary Participate in UOL Young Adult Ski Weekend
By Subdeacon Vasyl Pasakas
The annual UOL Winter Ski Weekend Getaway was held on January 13-15, 2012. Once again, Oleh and Natalie Bilynsky graciously opened their home in the Poconos to the visitors. Thirteen participants shared in fellowship with each other, reflecting upon this year’s Nativity season. His Grace Bishop Daniel joined the participants of the retreat with the seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, who remained at the retreat for its duration.
Retreat participants arrived in Pocono Lake, PA throughout Friday evening, greeted by the smells of dinner prepared by Bilynsky family. Following the dinner, everyone participated in the blessing of a home prayer service performed by His Grace Bishop Daniel. In his concluding remarks, before departure, the bishop wished the participants spiritually uplifting time, which will empower them to return back to their daily life full of vigor and desire to make a positive change in the world around them. After the meal, people played board and card games and a much needed dose of rest and relaxation. The next morning, the retreat members traveled to a local bowling club for a Retreat Tournament.
On Sunday morning, everyone packed up and headed to Scranton, PA for Divine Liturgy at Holy Archangel Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, where they were greeted warmly by Protopresbyter Nestor Kowal and his parish. Following a coffee hour, the group spent one more meal together at a local restaurant. Final goodbyes were said and the participants went their separate ways, looking forward to next year’s festivities!
