St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New Britain, CT has again partnered with Universal Aid for Children-Ukraine (UAC-Ukraine).The partnership was to send dental supplies to orphanages in Odessa, Ukraine. The Ukrainian Orthodox parish family, in partnership with two other local churches, collected over 600 toothbrushes and 200 tubes of toothpaste, as well as other dental supplies for the children in Odessa's Orphanages 34, 4 and 5.
Just recently, the church also partnered with UAC-Ukraine for the building of a new set of exterior steps in Orphanage 34. At the top of the steps is a beauty shop and a reading/study room for the children. The old set of steps was dangerous and in need of major overhaul. Generous donors at St. Mary's made the reconstruction possible and the students are now fully utilizing the second floor of the building. Orphanage 34 houses about 150 children at any given time. The parish received letters of heartfelt thanks from the Directors of both orphanages.
