Archbishop Vsevolod on the Mend!
Archbishop Vsevolod on the Mend!
Archbishop Antony traveled to Chicago on 25 September to visit with His Eminence Archbishop Vsevolod, who is presently in hospital suffering from the sudden onset of acute leukemia.  Archbishop Vsevolod informed the faithful of his Eparchy about his illness in a letter, which was read from the amvon by Eparchy clergy on Sunday, 22 September.  During the visit, the two Archbishops were able to discuss Archbishop Vsevolod’s condition completely and pray that the Heavenly Physician of our souls and bodies, Who sent His Only-Begotten Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to be our Savior and Benefactor, would extend His healing touch upon Archbishop Vsevolod, raising him from his bed of temporary illness and suffering, that his weakness may be banished and his strength may be returned, thus enabling him to praise and glorify God and bless His Holy Name.

The Archbishop had gone to the hospital for the treatment of another much less serious ailment and through the normal blood and other tests conducted upon admission, the serious problem was diagnosed.  He has received extensive and aggressive treatment over the past two weeks.  His physicians are pleased with the success of the treatment, thus far and look forward to confirmation of this success in the months ahead.

We ask that all the faithful and clergy of our Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church and those of other Churches where Archbishop Vsevolod is well known through his ecumenical activities to keep him in their daily prayers.  The Apostle James says it concisely: “…the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up” (5:15).

The Archbishop needs his rest and to rebuild his strength.  Therefore, he asks for privacy throughout this process.  Cards of support and prayer will most certainly be appreciated, but telephone calls and personal visits must wait until his strength permits.

We are thankful to Almighty God for His wonderful goodness in turning our heavy hearts into joy by this beginning of restoration of health for Archbishop Vsevolod; that He did not forsake him, but did visit him with comfort from above; that He supported him in patience and submission to His will.  May His Eminence soon return to his place before the Holy Altar and Throne of God, leading the faithful in a great offering of thanksgiving for God’s Goodness.
