"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:2)

At a time when Ukraine has endured the terrible trial of war for many years, humanity is confronted with a question that cannot be ignored: What does it mean to be a Christian when surrounded by pain, loss, and human suffering? For the Orthodox Church, the answer has remained unchanged for two thousand years - to stand beside those who suffer, to recognize the image of God in every person, and to serve each one as though we were serving Christ Himself.

Such is the ministry of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, which, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, has continued its mission of Christian mercy on behalf of the long-suffering Ukrainian people with the blessing of the Primate of the Church, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony. At the Metropolitan's direction, Archbishop Daniel coordinates the humanitarian ministry of the Church, uniting the prayers of Orthodox faithful throughout America with tangible assistance for those who need it most.

Today, Ukrainian soldiers heroically defend their nation's borders, freedom, and the lives of its people. Yet alongside the military front there exists another front - less visible, but no less important. It is the frontline of human compassion.

Here, the struggle is fought not with weapons, but with love; not with military equipment, but with compassion; not through commands, but through self-sacrificial service. Here, every day, a battle is waged for the lives of the wounded, the elderly, displaced families, children who have lost their homes, and especially those young Ukrainians who are simultaneously fighting devastating illnesses.

When a child must endure both war and cancer, human words become inadequate.

At that moment, the language of the Church becomes mercy, prayer, and presence.

Children Who Hold IV Lines Instead of Toys

A special place within this humanitarian ministry is devoted to supporting Ukraine's pediatric oncology and hematology departments.

During one of their regular visits to the Central Regional Hospital in the city of Dnipro, Orthodox clergy, together with the hospital's General Director, Oleksii Vlasov, visited young patients who fight for their lives each day.

Through the sacrificial generosity of the parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, these children received essential supplies, specialized nutritional products, gifts, and, above all, what they need most - care, love, and prayer.

For these children, lactose-free nutrition is not simply another product on a grocery shelf. It is another day of treatment. It is strength for tomorrow. It is hope. And when tiny hands grasp intravenous tubing instead of toys, the Church cannot remain on the sidelines. As Christ Himself teaches: "Whatever you did for one of the least of these My brethren, you did for Me." (Matthew 25:40)

The clergy often repeat a simple yet profound truth when addressing benefactors: "There are no other people's children. There are only our children. Every child is a child of Ukraine."

These words cease to be merely a beautiful slogan when one looks into the eyes of young cancer patients, displaced children, or children evacuated from frontline communities.

Twenty-nine children. Twenty-nine individual stories. Twenty-nine childhoods shattered by war. Each one has left behind a home, favorite toys, friends, and school. For many of them, the word evacuation became part of everyday life before they had even learned how to dream about the future.

Pastoral visits to shelters housing children from occupied and frontline territories remind us that behind every statistic stands a unique child. A child who misses a father. A child who remembers the sound of explosions. A child who already knows what it means to live in a bomb shelter. That is why the Church comes not only with food packages and humanitarian supplies. She comes with prayer. With blessing. With the love of Christ.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this ministry has been the longstanding cooperation between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and the clergy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Serhii of Donetsk and Mariupol, this ministry of mercy has continued even after much of the region fell under occupation.

On the contrary, it continues to flourish among God's people.

Priests, volunteers, and faithful laypeople, often risking their own safety, deliver humanitarian assistance daily to those who need it most.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Very Rev. Fr. Serhii Kramarenko, Fr. Maksym Kuznetsov, the clergy of the Donetsk Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, countless volunteers, and medical professionals who have become the living hands of Christ's mercy amid the horrors of war.

Because of their sacrificial ministry, the aid lovingly collected by Orthodox faithful throughout America reaches every child, every family, and every person in need. Thousands of miles separate America from Ukraine. Yet love knows no geography. Prayer recognizes no borders. Mercy requires no translation.

Saint John Chrysostom taught that almsgiving is "medicine for the human soul."

Saint Basil the Great reminded us that the possessions we share are never truly ours; they have been entrusted to us by God for the service of our neighbor.

Today these timeless teachings take on renewed meaning. Every donation from an Orthodox family in America becomes healing for a child in Ukraine. Every prayer strengthens a mother. Every package of food proclaims that Christ has not abandoned His people. In this way, the Church proclaims the Gospel not only through words but through concrete acts of love.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA offers heartfelt gratitude to all of its parishes, clergy, Sisterhoods, youth organizations, benefactors, and friends who have opened their hearts in service to Ukraine.

Special thanks are offered to Metropolitan Antony, whose blessing has made this humanitarian ministry possible, and to all Orthodox faithful whose prayers and sacrificial generosity have become a source of hope for thousands of Ukrainian families.

We also express our sincere appreciation to Metropolitan Serhii of Donetsk and Mariupol, Archpriest Serhii Kramarenko, Archpriest Maksym Kuznetsov, the clergy, volunteers, physicians, and every collaborator who, despite the dangers of war, continue to stand beside those who suffer.

Their work is far more than humanitarian relief. It is a living proclamation of the Gospel.

Love Is Stronger Than War! One day, this war will end. Destroyed cities will be rebuilt. Children will return home.

Yet even now, another history is being written - the history of human compassion. And when future generations ask where the Church stood during this war, the answer will be simple: She stood beside the hospital bed of a child battling cancer. She stood in shelters alongside displaced families. She stood in cities devastated by shelling. She stood wherever a child was crying. Because that is where Christ Himself is always present.

And as long as even one child continues to need our prayers, our love, and our help, the mission of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA will continue.

For the love of Christ is stronger than war, and the mercy of God always triumphs over darkness.

служіння Української Православної Церкви США дітям України як свідчення живої віри

У час, коли Україна вже багато років переживає страшне випробування війною, перед людством постає питання, яке неможливо оминути: що означає бути християнином тоді, коли навколо панують біль, втрати та людські страждання? Для Православної Церкви відповідь залишається незмінною протягом двох тисячоліть - бути поруч із тими, хто страждає, бачити в кожній людині образ Божий і служити їй так, ніби служимо Самому Христові.

Саме таким є служіння Української Православної Церкви США, яка від початку повномасштабної війни, з благословення Предстоятеля Церкви - Високопреосвященнішого Митрополита Антонія, продовжує місію християнського милосердя для багатостраждального українського народу. За дорученням митрополита, Архієпископ Даниїл координує гуманітарне служіння Церкви, поєднуючи молитву православних вірних Америки з конкретною допомогою тим, хто найбільше її потребує.

Сьогодні українські воїни героїчно захищають державні кордони, свободу та життя свого народу. Але поряд із військовою передовою існує ще одна лінія фронту - менш помітна, проте не менш важлива.

Це фронт людського милосердя.

Тут боротьба ведеться не зброєю, а любов'ю; не військовою технікою, а співчуттям; не наказами, а жертовністю. Саме тут щодня триває боротьба за життя поранених, людей похилого віку, вимушених переселенців, дітей, які втратили свої домівки, і особливо тих маленьких українців, які одночасно борються із найстрашнішими хворобами.

Коли дитина переживає війну та онкологічне захворювання одночасно, людські слова стають недостатніми. Саме тоді мовою Церкви стають милосердя, молитва і присутність.

Діти, які замість іграшок тримають крапельниці

Особливе місце у гуманітарному служінні займає підтримка дитячих онкогематологічних відділень України.

Під час одного з чергових візитів до Центральної обласної лікарні міста Дніпра православні священнослужителі разом із генеральним директором лікарні Олексієм Власовим відвідали маленьких пацієнтів, які щодня ведуть боротьбу за власне життя.

Завдяки жертовності православних парафій Української Православної Церкви США дітям були передані необхідні речі, спеціальне харчування, подарунки та найголовніше - увага, любов і молитва.

Бо для цих дітей безлактозне харчування - це не просто продукт. Це можливість пройти ще один день лікування.Це шанс набратися сил. Це надія.

І коли маленькі долоньки замість іграшок стискають системи для крапельниць, Церква не має права залишатися осторонь. Адже, як навчає Христос: «Усе, що ви зробили одному з Моїх братів менших - Мені зробили» (Мт. 25:40).

Особливого змісту набувають слова, які постійно повторює духовенство, звертаючись до благодійників: «Немає чужих дітей. Є тільки наші діти. Усі діти - це діти України.»

Ці слова перестають бути красивим гаслом, коли бачиш очі маленьких пацієнтів, вимушених переселенців або дітей із прифронтових територій.

Двадцять дев'ять дітей. Двадцять дев'ять окремих історій. Двадцять дев'ять зруйнованих війною дитинств. Кожен із них залишив дім, улюблені іграшки, друзів, школу.

Для багатьох слово «евакуація» стало звичним ще до того, як вони встигли навчитися мріяти про майбутнє.

Пастирські візити до шелтерів, де тимчасово проживають діти з окупованих та прифронтових територій, нагадують усім нам: за статистикою завжди стоїть конкретна дитина.

Дитина, яка сумує за батьком. Дитина, яка пам'ятає звук вибухів. Дитина, яка вже знає, що таке життя в укритті.Саме тому Церква приходить не лише з продуктовими наборами чи гуманітарною допомогою. Вона приходить із молитвою. Із благословенням. Із любов'ю Христовою.

Особливою сторінкою цього служіння стала багаторічна співпраця Української Православної Церкви США з духовенством Православної Церкви України.

З благословення Високопреосвященнішого Митрополита Сергія, Донецького і Маріупольського, навіть після окупації значної частини територій місія милосердя не припинилася.

Навпаки. Вона продовжує жити серед людей. Священники, волонтери та миряни, ризикуючи власною безпекою, щоденно доставляють гуманітарну допомогу до місць, де її найбільше потребують.

Особливу вдячність Українська Православна Церква США висловлює протоієрею Сергію Крамаренку, протоієрею Максиму Кузнецову, духовенству Донецької єпархії Православної Церкви України, численним волонтерам та медичним працівникам, які стали живими руками Христового милосердя серед війни.

Саме завдяки їхній жертовній праці допомога, яку з любов'ю збирають православні громади Америки, доходить до кожної дитини, кожної родини, кожного хворого.

Відстань між Америкою та Україною вимірюється тисячами кілометрів. Але любов не знає географії. Молитва не має кордонів. Милосердя не потребує перекладача.

Святитель Іоан Золотоустий писав, що милостиня є «ліками для людської душі». Святитель Василій Великий наголошував, що майно, яким ми ділимося, ніколи не є лише нашим - воно довірене нам Богом для служіння ближньому. Сьогодні ці слова набувають нового звучання. Бо кожна пожертва православної родини в Америці стає ліками для української дитини. Кожна молитва стає підтримкою матері. Кожен продуктовий набір - знаком того, що Христос не залишає Свій народ. Саме так Церква свідчить Євангеліє не лише словами, але й конкретними справами любові.

Українська Православна Церква США складає щиру вдячність усім своїм парафіям, духовенству, сестрицтвам, молодіжним організаціям, благодійникам та друзям, які відкривають свої серця для служіння Україні.

Особлива вдячність - Митрополиту Антонію, який благословив продовження цієї гуманітарної місії, та всім православним вірним, чиї молитви і жертовність стали джерелом надії для тисяч українських сімей.

Також висловлюємо сердечну вдячність Митрополиту Сергію Донецькому і Маріупольському, протоієрею Сергію Крамаренку, протоієрею Максиму Кузнецову, духовенству, волонтерам, медикам і всім співпрацівникам, які, незважаючи на небезпеку війни, продовжують бути поруч із людьми.

Їхня праця є не просто гуманітарною діяльністю. Вона є живою проповіддю Євангелія.

Любов сильніша за війну! Війна неодмінно закінчиться. Зруйновані міста будуть відбудовані. Діти повернуться до своїх домівок.

Проте вже сьогодні твориться інша історія - історія людського милосердя. І коли майбутні покоління запитають, де була Церква під час цієї війни, відповідь буде простою: Вона була біля лікарняного ліжка онкохворої дитини.Вона була в шелтері поруч із сім'ями переселенців. Вона була в містах, що потерпали від обстрілів. Вона була там, де плакала дитина. Бо саме там завжди перебуває Христос.

І поки хоча б одна дитина потребує нашої молитви, нашої любові та нашої допомоги, місія Української Православної Церкви США триватиме.

Адже любов Христова сильніша за війну, а милосердя Боже завжди перемагає темряву.
