MILLVILLE, NJ - The joyful ringing of church bells, the fragrance of incense, and the heartfelt prayers of more than 250 faithful filled Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Millville, New Jersey, as the parish family gathered to celebrate its Patronal Feast Day, honoring the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The celebration became not only a remembrance of the two great pillars of the Church, but also a profound witness to the enduring faith of a parish community that has faithfully proclaimed the Gospel for nearly 116 years within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America.

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Prime Hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, Archbishop Daniel, President of the Consistory, Spiritual Father of the Western Eparchy, and Academic Dean of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, traveled from the Spiritual Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, to preside at the Divine Liturgy for the parish feast.

Upon his arrival, Archbishop Daniel was greeted with the warmth and love that have long characterized the Millville parish family. The children of the parish welcomed their archpastor with bouquets of flowers, while representatives of the Parish Board offered the traditional bread and salt, beautifully adorned with golden wheat and decorated with blue and yellow ribbons symbolizing the enduring love of the faithful for both their ancestral homeland of Ukraine and their beloved Church in America.

Very Rev. Fr. Orest Poukhalskii, the pastor of the parish, formally welcomed Archbishop Daniel and expressed gratitude for his pastoral visit. Joining in prayer were numerous clergy from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and neighboring states, including Very Rev. Protopresbyter Stephen Hutnick, whose presence reflected the unity of the diocesan clergy gathered around their bishop and the parish family.

One of the most moving moments of the celebration came as Archbishop Daniel brought with him a treasured spiritual treasure: a collection of holy relics of numerous saints of the Orthodox Church.

Among the sacred relics were those of the Three Holy Hierarchs - St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory the Theologian, and St. John Chrysostom - together with St. Stephen the Protomartyr, St. Demetrios the Myrrh-streaming, St. Anthony the Great, the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga, the Righteous Job of Pochaiv, and many other saints whose holy lives continue to inspire generations of Orthodox Christians.

As these sacred relics were solemnly carried into the midst of the faithful, the congregation approached with deep reverence, offering prayers and veneration. For many parishioners, it was a rare and unforgettable opportunity to stand spiritually in the presence of those who have faithfully completed the race of faith and now intercede before the throne of God.

The Gospel appointed for the feast recounted the encounter between Christ and the Roman centurion, whose humble faith moved the Savior to proclaim: "Truly, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel." (Matthew 8:10)

Drawing upon this powerful Gospel passage, Archbishop Daniel challenged every member of the congregation with a deeply personal question: "When was the last time you approached the Lord with the faith of the centurion? When was the last time you stood before Christ and simply prayed: 'Just say the word, Lord, and Your servant will be healed'?"

The Archbishop reminded the faithful that genuine faith is not measured merely by outward religious observance but by complete trust in God's power and mercy.

"Too often," he reflected, "we ask God to follow our plans. The centurion teaches us something entirely different. He entrusted everything to Christ. He believed that one word from the Savior was enough."

Archbishop Daniel encouraged parents to become the first teachers of faith in their homes, reminding them that children learn to trust Christ not simply by hearing sermons, but by witnessing their parents pray, forgive, love, and serve one another.

"Our children," he said, "must see Christ alive in our homes before they will recognize Him in the Church."

His homily became an invitation for every person present to renew their own relationship with Christ - not through fear, but through unwavering confidence in the healing love of God.

Throughout the Divine Liturgy, numerous faithful approached the Mystery of Holy Repentance, preparing themselves spiritually to receive the Holy Eucharist.

Children, youth, families, and elderly parishioners reverently approached the Holy Chalice, receiving the Precious Body and Blood of Christ from the hands of the clergy. Their participation beautifully illustrated that the true strength of a parish is found not in buildings or programs, but in lives continually transformed through participation in the Holy Mysteries of the Church.

Following the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Daniel conveyed the blessings and heartfelt greetings of Metropolitan Antony to the parish family and expressed gratitude for their more than century-long witness to Orthodox Christianity.

In a particularly moving moment, Fr. Paul Emmick and Presbytera Maria Emmick were presented with the Centennial Medal of the UOC of the USA and the Medal of the Protection of the Mother of God in recognition of their lifetime of faithful service, sacrificial love, and unwavering dedication to the ministry of the Holy Orthodox Church.

The Archbishop noted that while medals recognize visible acts of service, God alone knows the countless quiet sacrifices made over many decades in support of parish life, clergy families, and the mission of the Church.

Archbishop Daniel also expressed sincere appreciation to Very Rev. Fr. Orest Poukhalsky for his devoted pastoral ministry, thanking him for nurturing the spiritual life of the Millville parish family with humility, compassion, and steadfast faithfulness.

The celebration concluded with a festive parish luncheon lovingly prepared by the parish sisterhood and dedicated volunteers. Parishioners, clergy, and guests gathered around the tables in joyful fellowship, sharing memories, renewing friendships, and giving thanks for God's abundant blessings.

The meal reflected something much deeper than hospitality - it embodied the communion of the Church itself, where generations gather around one table united by faith in Christ.

As conversations continued throughout the afternoon, one could not help but recognize that the true legacy of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish is not merely its 116-year history, but its continuing commitment to living the Gospel in every generation.

The Patronal Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul once again reminded all who attended that the Church remains alive whenever faithful hearts continue to echo the prayer of the Roman centurion: "Lord, just say the word..."

For it is through that humble trust that Christ continues to heal wounded hearts, strengthen weary souls, unite His people around His Holy Table, and send them forth as witnesses of His Kingdom in the world.

Це святкування стало не лише спомином двох великих стовпів Христової Церкви, але й глибоким свідченням незламної віри парафіяльної громади, яка вже майже 116 років вірно звіщає Євангеліє у лоні Української Православної Церкви США.

З благословення Його Високопреосвященства Митрополита Антонія, Предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви США, архієпископ Даниїл, голова Консисторії та духовний отець Західної єпархії, та академічний декан Української Православної Богословської Семінарії Святої Софії, прибув із Духовного Осередку Української Православної Церкви США у Саут-Баунд-Бруку, штат Нью-Джерзі, щоб очолити Божественну Літургію з нагоди храмового свята.

Після прибуття архієпископа Даниїла парафіяльна громада тепло й сердечно зустріла свого архіпастиря. Діти парафії привітали владику букетами квітів, а представники Парафіяльної Ради піднесли традиційні хліб і сіль, оздоблені золотистими колосками пшениці та синьо-жовтими стрічками, що символізували незмінну любов вірних як до своєї історичної Батьківщини - України, так і до своєї Церкви в Америці.

Настоятель парафії протоієрей Орest Пухальський офіційно привітав архієпископа Даниїла та висловив вдячність за його архіпастирський візит. Разом із громадою молилися численні священнослужителі з Нью-Джерзі, Пенсильванії, Меріленду та інших штатів, серед яких був і протопресвітер Степан Хутник, чия присутність стала свідченням єдності духовенства навколо свого архіпастиря та парафіяльної родини.

Одним із найбільш зворушливих моментів святкування стало принесення архієпископом Даниїлом особливого духовного дару - святих мощей багатьох угодників Божих Православної Церкви.

Серед святинь були мощі Трьох Святителів - святителя Василія Великого, святителя Григорія Богослова та святителя Іоана Золотоустого, святого первомученика архідиякона Стефана, святого великомученика Димитрія, преподобного Антонія Великого, святої рівноапостольної княгині Ольги, преподобного Іова Почаївського та багатьох інших святих, життя яких і сьогодні надихає покоління православних християн.

Коли ці святі мощі були урочисто внесені до храму, вірні з глибоким благоговінням приступали до них, возносячи молитви та складаючи шану святим. Для багатьох це стала рідкісна й незабутня нагода духовно доторкнутися до тих, хто завершив свій подвиг віри й нині молитовно заступається перед престолом Божим.

Євангельське читання цього дня розповідало про зустріч Господа Ісуса Христа із римським сотником, смиренна віра якого спонукала Спасителя промовити: «Істинно кажу вам: навіть в Ізраїлі Я не знайшов такої великої віри» (Мф. 8:10).

Спираючись на цей уривок Святого Євангелія, архієпископ Даниїл звернувся до всіх присутніх із глибоко особистим запитанням: «Коли востаннє ви приходили до Господа з такою вірою, яку мав сотник? Коли востаннє ви стали перед Христом і просто сказали: "Лише скажи слово, Господи, і оздоровиться раб Твій?"»

Архіпастир наголосив, що справжня віра вимірюється не лише зовнішнім виконанням релігійних обрядів, але насамперед повною довірою до Божої сили та милосердя.

«Надто часто, - зазначив владика, - ми просимо Бога здійснити наші власні плани. Сотник навчає нас зовсім іншого. Він повністю довірився Христові. Він вірив, що одного слова Спасителя достатньо.»

Особливо архієпископ звернувся до батьків, закликаючи їх бути першими вчителями віри для своїх дітей, нагадуючи, що діти вчаться довіряти Христові не лише слухаючи проповіді, але насамперед бачачи, як їхні батьки моляться, прощають, люблять і служать один одному.

«Наші діти повинні побачити живого Христа у наших домівках ще до того, як вони навчаться впізнавати Його у храмі», - підкреслив архіпастир.

Його проповідь стала закликом для кожного присутнього оновити свої особисті взаємини з Христом - не через страх, а через непохитну довіру до Його зцілюючої любові.

Упродовж Божественної Літургії багато вірних приступили до Таїнства Святої Сповіді, готуючи свої душі до прийняття Святої Євхаристії.

Діти, молодь, родини та люди похилого віку благоговійно підходили до Святої Чаші, приймаючи Пречисті Тіло і Кров Христові з рук духовенства. Їхня участь стала яскравим свідченням того, що справжня сила парафії полягає не у стінах храму чи програмах діяльності, а у людських серцях, які постійно преображаються через участь у Святих Таїнствах Церкви.

Після завершення Божественної Літургії архієпископ Даниїл передав громаді благословення та сердечні вітання Митрополита Антонія, висловивши вдячність за більш ніж столітнє служіння цієї громади Православній Церкві.

Особливо зворушливим моментом стало вручення о. Павлу Емміку Ювілейної медалі Української Православної Церкви США, а матінці Марії Еммік - Медалі Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці на знак визнання їхнього багаторічного жертовного служіння, самовідданої любові та непохитної відданості Святій Православній Церкві.

Архієпископ зазначив, що хоча церковні нагороди відзначають видиме служіння, лише Господь знає незліченні тихі жертви, які протягом десятиліть приносилися задля життя парафії, підтримки священничих родин та місії Христової Церкви.

Владика також висловив щиру вдячність протоієрею Оресту Пухальському за його ревне пастирське служіння, подякувавши йому за смиренне, співчутливе та вірне духовне провадження парафіяльної громади.

Святкування завершилося святковою трапезою, з любов'ю приготовленою сестрицтвом парафії та численними добровольцями. Парафіяни, духовенство й гості зібралися за спільним столом у дусі братньої любові, ділячись спогадами, зміцнюючи дружбу та дякуючи Богові за Його щедрі благословення.

Ця трапеза була значно більшою, ніж просто гостинність - вона стала образом самої Церкви, у якій різні покоління збираються за одним столом, єднаючись у вірі в Господа Ісуса Христа.

Упродовж святкового спілкування кожен міг переконатися, що справжня спадщина парафії святих апостолів Петра і Павла полягає не лише у її 116-річній історії, але й у постійному прагненні жити Євангелієм у кожному новому поколінні.

Храмове свято святих первоверховних апостолів Петра і Павла ще раз нагадало всім присутнім, що Церква залишається живою доти, доки вірні серця продовжують повторювати молитву римського сотника: «Господи, лише скажи слово...»

Адже саме через таку смиренну довіру Христос і сьогодні зцілює поранені серця, укріплює втомлені душі, єднає Свій народ навколо Святої Чаші та посилає його у світ як свідків Свого вічного Царства.
