On the Fifth Sunday after Holy Pascha, when the Holy Orthodox Church prayerfully commemorates the encounter of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with the Samaritan Woman – Saint Photini - the faithful of Saint Katherine Ukrainian Orthodox in Arden Hills, Minnesota gathered in profound spiritual joy and heartfelt gratitude to celebrate the living witness of Orthodox Christian faith, the beauty of motherhood, and the sacred continuity of pastoral ministry within the life of the parish family.

The Sunday of the Samaritan Woman always offers the faithful a powerful spiritual lesson about transformation, mercy, humility, and courage. Standing before Christ at Jacob’s Well, Saint Photini encountered not condemnation, but divine compassion. The Lord spoke to her not merely as a stranger, but as a soul thirsting for truth, healing, and eternal life. Through His humility and love, her life was transformed, and she herself became a fearless witness to the Resurrection and truth of Christ.

Reflecting upon this sacred Gospel encounter, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel arrived at Saint Katherine Parish in order to lead the parish community in prayer and celebration during a historic and emotional moment in the life of the community. Upon entering the holy temple, the Archpastor was warmly greeted by the parish children with flowers and words of welcome, together with parish board president Roman and Victoria Hordashevskyy, who joyfully welcomed Archbishop Daniel to the parish family.

The visit marked a deeply meaningful occasion, as the faithful gathered to celebrate the 28th anniversary of pastoral ministry of the Very Rev. Fr. Petro Siwko, who now enters retirement after nearly three decades of loving and sacrificial service to Saint Katherine Parish. During the greeting, Fr. Petro emotionally reflected that this would be the final time he would welcome Archbishop Daniel as the active pastor of the community. He noted with gratitude that together they had shared nearly eighteen years of archpastoral and priestly ministry in caring for the spiritual flock entrusted to them by Christ.

Archbishop Daniel responded with heartfelt affection and gratitude, noting that he had arrived not only to honor Fr. Petro, but also his wife Dobrodiyka Boguslawa, their son Mykola, and the entire Siwko family for their unwavering faithfulness and loving dedication to the Church. The Archpastor particularly recognized Fr. Petro’s 38 years of priestly ministry, including 28 years of devoted pastoral leadership at Saint Katherine Parish.

Concelebrating the Divine Liturgy with Archbishop Daniel were the Very Rev. Fr. Myron Korostil, pastor of Saint Michael and Saint George Ukrainian Orthodox Parish in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as Rev. Fr. Pavlo Vysotskyi, who together with Dobrodiyka Valentyna and Readers Marian Meleshko and Bohdan Bodnar arrived from the Spiritual Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.

The parish choir, under the gifted direction of choir director Olekssiy Khrystych, beautifully offered the liturgical responses, lifting the hearts and souls of the faithful toward the heavenly Kingdom through the grace-filled beauty of Orthodox sacred music.

During his homily following the reading of the Holy Gospel, Archbishop Daniel reflected deeply upon the encounter between Christ and Saint Photini. He spoke about the humility of the Lord, Who approached the Samaritan Woman not with judgment or hostility, but with kindness, respect, patience, and genuine human compassion.

“The Lord did not begin His conversation with condemnation,” Archbishop Daniel preached. “He began with kindness. And kindness became the doorway through which grace entered the heart of Saint Photini.”

Drawing the faithful into reflection upon contemporary Christian life, the Archpastor emphasized the urgent need for humanity, mercy, and compassion in today’s world - particularly within parish life, family relationships, and even social media interactions, where people too often forget the sacred dignity of one another.

“Orthodox Christianity is not simply about defending truth with words,” the Archbishop stated. “It is about revealing truth through the way we love, forgive, speak, and care for one another. Every comment, every action, every word either reveals Christ or hides Him.”

Quoting the Holy Fathers of the Church, Archbishop Daniel reminded the faithful of the words of Saint John Chrysostom: “Nothing makes us so like God as being kind and merciful.”

He further reflected: “In a world wounded by anger, division, war, and loneliness, kindness itself becomes a missionary act. Mercy becomes theology lived out in daily life.”

The faithful prayerfully approached the Most Holy Eucharist in large numbers, receiving the Body and Blood of Christ as the source of spiritual healing, renewal, and eternal life.

Following the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Petro Siwko stood in the center of the temple holding the parish altar cross in his hands. With emotion and gratitude, he thanked Archbishop Daniel for the trust and blessing to serve as pastor of Saint Katherine Parish for the past 28 years. He also offered congratulations to Archbishop Daniel upon the anniversaries of his own archpastoral ministry and priestly ordination.

In response, Archbishop Daniel invited Dobrodiyka Boguslawa to come forward together with Fr. Petro, publicly expressing profound gratitude for her many years of sacrificial service, humility, care for the parish family, and steadfast support of her husband’s ministry.

Then, in a moving and symbolic moment in the life of the parish, Archbishop Daniel received the parish altar cross from the hands of Fr. Petro and formally introduced Rev. Fr. Pavlo Vysotskyi and Dobrodiyka Valentyna as the newly appointed pastoral family of Saint Katherine Parish.

Handing the pastoral cross into the hands of Fr. Pavlo, Archbishop Daniel solemnly instructed him: “Love the flock entrusted to your spiritual care. Walk among the people not only as a pastor, but as a father, brother, and servant of Christ. Teach with truth, but always lead with love.”

Joyful proclamations of “Mnohaya Lita!” (“God Grant Them Many Years!”) filled the church as prayers were offered both for the retiring pastor and his family, and for the newly appointed pastor and his wife as they begin a new chapter in the spiritual life of the parish community.

As the civil observance of Mother’s Day coincided with the parish celebration, members of the parish board and administration distributed flowers to all mothers present in the temple, honoring their sacred vocation of love, sacrifice, nurturing, and prayer.

The celebration continued with a festive parish banquet and jubilee program honoring Fr. Petro, celebrating Mother’s Day, and welcoming Fr. Pavlo and his family. The joyful program was masterfully led by Luba Lewytzkyj, daughter of the late Rev. Fr. Wolodymyr and Pani Halyna Lewytzkyj, whose family legacy continues through the Lewytzkyj Scholarship Fund.

Throughout the afternoon, clergy and faithful offered heartfelt tributes and memories. Musical performances and songs filled the hall with joy, while children’s dance groups beautifully presented traditional Ukrainian dances as expressions of gratitude, faith, and cultural heritage.

One of the most emotional moments of the afternoon came when Archbishop Daniel invited Pani Boguslawa Siwko to come forward. The Archbishop reflected upon her years of faithful ministry as a pastor’s wife, devoted member of the parish sisterhood, caretaker of the community, and spiritual mother to countless faithful throughout the years. Tears filled the eyes of many parishioners as they listened to words of gratitude addressed to the woman who had quietly and lovingly walked beside her husband throughout decades of ministry.

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Archbishop Daniel presented Pani Boguslawa with the Medal of the Protection of the Mother of God in recognition of her faithful and sacrificial service to the Church.

Likewise, Fr. Petro Siwko was invited forward and awarded the Centennial Medal of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA for his many years of dedicated priestly ministry, spiritual leadership, and loving pastoral care.

Among those present for the celebration were also wounded defenders of Ukraine currently receiving treatment and rehabilitation in the United States through the compassionate ministry of the PROTEZ Foundation. These courageous soldiers, many of whom have suffered life-altering injuries while defending the people and freedom of Ukraine, stood as living witnesses of sacrifice, courage, and perseverance.

Archbishop Daniel specifically acknowledged their presence, reminding the faithful that the Church must never forget those who carry the visible and invisible wounds of war.

“We honor these heroes not out of politics,” the Archbishop stated, “but out of Christian conscience and love. Every wounded soldier before us is a reminder of the price of freedom, the pain of war, and the sacred responsibility we have to stand beside those who suffer.”

The faithful responded with heartfelt applause and prayerful gratitude for the defenders of Ukraine, many approaching them personally throughout the day to offer words of encouragement, love, and support.

As the celebration concluded, the parish family of Saint Katherine Ukrainian Orthodox Parish stood united in thanksgiving to Almighty God for the blessings poured out upon their community through generations of faithful clergy, devoted mothers, sacrificial families, and loving parishioners.

In the radiant light of Pascha, the parish celebration became far more than a simple anniversary or farewell gathering. It became a living testimony that Orthodoxy is alive whenever kindness triumphs over judgment, whenever gratitude overcomes indifference, whenever love is offered sacrificially, and whenever Christ Himself remains at the center of parish life.

Indeed, through prayer, compassion, humility, and faithful service, the community of Saint Katherine Parish continues to proclaim to the world the eternal truth first witnessed by Saint Photini at the well: “Come and see Christ, the Giver of Living Water.”

У п’яту неділю після Святої Пасхи, коли Свята Православна Церква молитвенно згадує зустріч Господа і Спасителя нашого Ісуса Христа із самарянкою - святою Фотинією (Світланою) - вірні парафії Святої Великомучениці Катерини Української Православної Церкви в Арден-Гіллз, штат Міннесота, зібралися у глибокій духовній радості та щирій вдячності, щоби засвідчити живу православну віру, красу материнства та священну тяглість пастирського служіння у житті парафіяльної родини.

Неділя Самарянки завжди пропонує вірним потужний духовний урок про переміну життя, милосердя, смирення та мужність. Стоячи перед Христом біля криниці Якова, свята Фотинія зустріла не осуд, а Божественне співчуття. Господь звернувся до неї не просто як до незнайомої людини, а як до душі, що прагнула істини, зцілення та вічного життя. Через Його смирення та любов її життя було перемінене, і вона сама стала безстрашною свідчинею Воскресіння та істини Христової.

Роздумуючи над цією священною євангельською подією, Архієпископ Даниїл прибув до парафії Святої Катерини, щоб очолити молитву та святкування під час історичного й емоційного моменту в житті громади. При вході до святого храму Архіпастиря тепло привітали діти парафії з квітами та словами пошани, разом із головою парафіяльної управи Романом та Вікторією Гордашевськими, які з радістю вітали Архієпископа Даниїла у парафіяльній родині.

Цей візит став надзвичайно важливою подією, адже вірні зібралися, щоб відзначити 28-му річницю пастирського служіння всечеснішого протоієрея Петра Сівка, який тепер завершує активне служіння та виходить на заслужений відпочинок після майже трьох десятиліть жертовної та сповненої любові праці у парафії Святої Катерини. Під час привітання о. Петро зі зворушенням зазначив, що це востаннє він вітає Архієпископа Даниїла як активний настоятель громади. З вдячністю він пригадав, що разом вони поділяли майже вісімнадцять років архіпастирського та священничого служіння, дбаючи про духовну паству, довірену їм Христом.

У відповідь Архієпископ Даниїл висловив щиру любов і вдячність, наголосивши, що прибув до парафії не лише для вшанування о. Петра, але й його дружини - добродійки Богуслави, їхнього сина Миколи та всієї родини Сівків за їхню непохитну вірність і любляче служіння Церкві. Архіпастир особливо відзначив 38 років священничого служіння о. Петра, з яких 28 років були присвячені служінню у парафії Святої Катерини.

Разом з Архієпископом Даниїлом Божественну Літургію співслужили всечесніший протоієрей Мирон Коростіль, настоятель парафії святого Михаїла та святого Юрія у Міннеаполісі, штат Міннесота, а також священник Павло Висоцький, який разом із добродійкою Валентиною та читцями Мар’яном Мелешком і Богданом Боднаром прибув із Духовного Осередку Митрополії Української Православної Церкви США у Саут-Баунд-Бруку, штат Нью-Джерсі.

Парафіяльний хор під талановитим керівництвом регента Олексія Христича прекрасно виконував богослужбові відповіді, підносячи серця та душі присутніх до Небесного Царства через благодатну красу православного церковного співу.

У своїй проповіді після читання Святого Євангелія Архієпископ Даниїл глибоко роздумував над зустріччю Христа із святою Фотинією. Він говорив про смирення Господа, Який підійшов до самарянки не з осудом чи ворожістю, а з добротою, повагою, терпінням і справжнім людським співчуттям.

«Господь не почав Своєї розмови із засудження, - проповідував Архієпископ Даниїл. - Він почав із доброти. І саме доброта стала дверима, через які благодать увійшла до серця святої Фотинії».

Закликаючи вірних до роздумів над сучасним християнським життям, Архіпастир наголосив на нагальній потребі людяності, милосердя та співчуття у сучасному світі - особливо у парафіяльному житті, сімейних стосунках і навіть у соціальних мережах, де люди занадто часто забувають про священну гідність одне одного.

«Православне християнство - це не лише захист істини словами, - зазначив Архієпископ. - Це відкривати істину через те, як ми любимо, прощаємо, говоримо й піклуємося одне про одного. Кожен коментар, кожна дія, кожне слово або відкриває Христа, або приховує Його».

Цитуючи святих отців Церкви, Архієпископ Даниїл нагадав слова святителя Іоана Золотоустого: «Ніщо так не уподібнює нас до Бога, як доброта і милосердя».

Також він додав: «У світі, пораненому гнівом, поділом, війною та самотністю, сама доброта стає місіонерським служінням. Милосердя стає богослов’ям, втіленим у щоденному житті».

Численні вірні приступили до Пресвятої Євхаристії, приймаючи Тіло і Кров Христові як джерело духовного зцілення, оновлення та вічного життя.

Після завершення Божественної Літургії о. Петро Сівко став посеред храму, тримаючи у руках напрестольний хрест парафії. Зі щирим зворушенням та вдячністю він подякував Архієпископу Даниїлу за довіру та благословення служити настоятелем парафії Святої Катерини протягом останніх 28 років. Також він привітав Архієпископа Даниїла з річницями архіпастирського та священничого служіння.

У відповідь Архієпископ Даниїл запросив добродійку Богуславу вийти вперед разом із о. Петром, публічно висловивши глибоку вдячність за її багаторічне жертовне служіння, смирення, турботу про парафіяльну родину та непохитну підтримку служіння свого чоловіка.

Потім, у надзвичайно символічний та зворушливий момент у житті парафії, Архієпископ Даниїл прийняв парафіяльний хрест із рук о. Петра та офіційно представив священника Павла Висоцького і добродійку Валентину як нову пастирську родину парафії Святої Катерини.

Передаючи пастирський хрест до рук о. Павла, Архієпископ Даниїл урочисто настановив його: «Люби паству, довірену твоїй духовній опіці. Ходи поміж людьми не лише як пастир, але як батько, брат і слуга Христовий. Навчай правдою, але завжди веди любов’ю».

Радісне многоліття наповнило храм, коли молитви підносилися як за пастиря, що завершував служіння, так і за новопризначеного настоятеля та його дружину, які розпочинають нову сторінку духовного життя парафії.

Оскільки церковне святкування співпало із цивільним святом Дня матері, члени парафіяльної управи та адміністрації вручили квіти всім матерям, присутнім у храмі, вшановуючи їхнє святе покликання любові, жертовності, виховання та молитви.

Святкування продовжилося урочистим бенкетом та ювілейною програмою на честь о. Петра, святкуванням Дня матері та привітанням о. Павла і його родини. Святкову програму чудово провела Люба Левицька - донька покійного о. Володимира та пані Галини Левицьких, чия родинна спадщина продовжується через стипендійний фонд Левицьких.

Протягом святкового дня духовенство та вірні виголошували щирі слова вдячності та спогадів. Музичні виступи й пісні наповнювали залу радістю, а дитячі танцювальні колективи прекрасно представили традиційні українські танці як вираження вдячності, віри та культурної спадщини.

Одним із найбільш емоційних моментів свята стала мить, коли Архієпископ Даниїл запросив пані Богуславу Сівко вийти вперед. Архіпастир говорив про її багаторічне вірне служіння як дружини священника, відданої членкині сестрицтва, опікунки громади та духовної матері для багатьох поколінь вірних. Сльози з’явилися на очах багатьох парафіян, які слухали слова вдячності, адресовані жінці, що тихо й жертовно йшла поруч зі своїм чоловіком протягом десятиліть служіння.

З благословення Його Високопреосвященства Митрополита Антонія Архієпископ Даниїл нагородив пані Богуславу Медаллю Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці на знак визнання її жертовного та вірного служіння Церкві.

Також о. Петро Сівко був нагороджений Ювілейною Медаллю Української Православної Церкви США за багаторічне віддане священниче служіння, духовне провідництво та люблячу пастирську опіку.

Серед присутніх на святкуванні були також поранені захисники України, які нині проходять лікування та реабілітацію у Сполучених Штатах Америки завдяки благодійному служінню організації PROTEZ Foundation. Ці мужні воїни, багато з яких зазнали важких поранень, захищаючи народ і свободу України, стали живим свідченням жертовності, мужності та незламності.

Архієпископ Даниїл особливо відзначив їхню присутність, наголосивши, що Церква ніколи не повинна забувати тих, хто носить видимі й невидимі рани війни.

«Ми вшановуємо цих героїв не з політичних причин, - зазначив Архієпископ, - а з християнської совісті та любові. Кожен поранений воїн перед нами є нагадуванням про ціну свободи, біль війни та священний обов’язок бути поруч із тими, хто страждає».

Вірні відповіли щирими оплесками та молитвами вдячності захисникам України, багато хто особисто підходив до них протягом дня, щоби висловити підтримку, любов і слова підбадьорення.

На завершення святкування парафіяльна родина Свято-Катерининської Української Православної парафії об’єдналася у подяці Всемогутньому Богові за благословення, щедро вилиті на громаду через покоління вірного духовенства, жертовних матерів, люблячих родин та відданих парафіян.

У сяйві Пасхальної радості це святкування стало набагато більшим, ніж просто ювілей чи прощальна подія. Воно стало живим свідченням того, що Православ’я живе там, де доброта перемагає осуд, вдячність долає байдужість, любов приноситься в жертву, а Сам Христос залишається центром парафіяльного життя.

І справді, через молитву, співчуття, смирення та вірне служіння громада парафії Святої Катерини продовжує проголошувати світові вічну істину, яку вперше почула свята Фотинія біля криниці: «Прийдіть і побачте Христа - Подателя Живої Води».
