By the mercy of God, hope is kept alive in the hearts of the suffering.

In the shadow of unimaginable suffering and forced displacement caused by Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine, a shining light of Christian love and compassion continues to radiate through the ministry of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA (UOC of the USA), in partnership with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). United by the Gospel call to serve “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40), faithful in both hemispheres are tirelessly offering hope to the weary, food to the hungry, and comfort to the brokenhearted.

His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, President of the Consistory and spiritual father of the Western Eparchy of the UOC of the USA, speaking on behalf of Metropolitan Antony and the entire Church, reflected with deep emotion:

“When Christ calls us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the sick, He is not offering poetic advice - He is commanding the very heart of Christian life. Our offering to the suffering people of Ukraine is not simply humanitarian; it is a Eucharistic expression of our faith. We serve because we see Christ in every widow, every orphaned child, and every wounded soldier.”

Every day, in the heart of Ukraine’s battered east, the Donetsk Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine opens its humanitarian hub to the most vulnerable - those who have lost everything. Displaced families from Donetsk and Kherson, children traumatized by missile strikes, the elderly left behind by evacuation convoys, and people with disabilities who cannot flee - all find refuge here.

As Metropolitan Serhii of the Donetsk Eparchy movingly declared: “Serving love is our common cause. This Church - your Church - has not forgotten her people. Thanks to the support of the hierarchs clergy and the faithful of the UOC of the USA, we are able to turn compassion into action. Every box of food, every bottle of water, every child’s smile is a testimony of God’s living presence among us.”

The hub’s shelves are lined with carefully curated food parcels, linen sets, and essentials donated with love and prayer. Parents quietly fight back tears as they receive sustenance for their children - who, like all children, long not only for food, but for sweets, toys, and a return to normalcy.

“A toddler wants a toy, a mother sacrifices her own meal so her children may eat, and a grandmother prays for strength to keep going. In all of them, we see the face of Christ,” Archbishop Daniel reflected.

The ministry of the Church does not stop at the doors of shelters or parish halls. It stretches to the very edge of danger - where defenders of Ukraine sweat under body armor and bear the scorching heat of battle. At their request, urgently needed supplies such as bottled water, coolers, snacks, and coffee are purchased and hand-delivered - often within a day.

“This is how we thank our soldiers - by being present, by meeting their needs, and by praying without ceasing,” said one volunteer from the Donetsk region. “We know who helps us. Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA has been a constant light in the darkness.”

What makes this aid different is not just its scale, but its source. It flows not from an institution alone, but from a Church that lives the Gospel. The faithful of the UOC of the USA - lay and clergy alike - have rallied in generosity, channeling funds and prayers to those suffering in ways most can barely comprehend.

“Today, the Church is not only about prayer,” Metropolitan Serhii reminds us. “It is about living faith in action. Loving God means serving our neighbor, because every person carries a piece of God within them.”

In a recent distribution event at the “Good Morning - We Are from Mariupol” hub, hundreds of families received food packages and gifts for children. Their smiles - and their prayers - are the most eloquent response to this service of love.

“Together, we are strong. Together, we are hope,” Archbishop Daniel said. “Even on a scorching day, the warmth of our hearts is stronger than the sun. Let us not tire in doing good. Let us continue to carry one another’s crosses - because by doing so, we carry Christ.”

To all people of good will, the message is clear: do not remain indifferent. The UOC of the USA and its partners in Ukraine extend an open invitation - join this sacred labor of compassion.

“Our Lord said, ‘I was hungry, and you gave Me food… I was a stranger, and you welcomed Me.’ This is not an abstract parable - it is our daily reality,” Archbishop Daniel affirmed. “Through your prayers, your donations, your awareness—we become Christ’s hands, His voice, His mercy.”

Let every gift of love become a cross of hope for those who are carrying their own crosses of grief, fear, and uncertainty. Let every act of mercy become a page in the living Gospel written by the Church in these dark times.

And let Ukraine’s suffering people know - they are not forgotten.

«Служіння любові - наша спільна справа»: Українська Православна Церква США продовжує місію милосердя в понівеченій війною Україні

З милості Божої, надія продовжує жити в серцях стражденних.

На тлі нестерпних страждань і масового переселення, спричинених жорстокою війною Росії проти України, яскраве світло християнської любові й співчуття продовжує сяяти через служіння Української Православної Церкви США (УПЦ США) у співпраці з Православною Церквою України (ПЦУ). Єднаючись у заклику Євангелія служити «одному з найменших братів Моїх» (Мт. 25:40), вірні обох континентів невтомно приносять надію виснаженим, хліб - голодним, а розраду - зраненим серцям.

Його Високопреосвященство архієпископ Даниїл, голова Консисторії та духовний отець Західної єпархії УПЦ США, звертаючись від імені Митрополита Антонія та всієї Церкви, поділився роздумами: «Коли Христос закликає нас нагодувати голодного, одягнути нагого, відвідати хворого - це не поетичний образ. Це суть нашого християнського життя. Наша допомога стражденним в Україні - це не лише гуманітарна акція, це євхаристійне свідчення віри. Ми служимо, бо бачимо Христа в кожній вдові, сироті, пораненому захиснику».

Щодня в самому серці зруйнованого сходу України гуманітарний хаб Донецької єпархії ПЦУ відкриває свої двері для найуразливіших - тих, хто втратив усе. Вимушені переселенці з Донецька й Херсонщини, діти, травмовані вибухами, самотні літні люди, люди з інвалідністю - всі знаходять тут розраду і допомогу.

Як зворушливо свідчить Митрополит Сергій Донецької єпархії: «Служіння любові - це наша спільна справа. Церква - ваша Церква - не забула свій народ. Завдяки підтримці ієрархів, духовенства і вірних УПЦ США ми можемо перетворювати співчуття на конкретні дії. Кожна продуктова коробка, кожна пляшка води, кожна дитяча усмішка - це свідчення живої присутності Бога серед нас».

На полицях хабу - харчові набори, комплекти білизни, речі першої потреби, зібрані з молитвою і любов’ю. Батьки стримують сльози, отримуючи їжу для своїх дітей, які, як і всі, мріють про солодощі, іграшки, про нормальне життя.

«Малюк хоче іграшку, мама не доїдає, щоби нагодувати дітей, а бабуся молиться за сили - в кожному з них ми бачимо обличчя Христа», - додав архієпископ Даниїл.

Служіння Церкви не обмежується стінами храму. Воно сягає самого краю небезпеки - передової, де захисники України борються під спекотним сонцем у важкому спорядженні. На їхнє прохання оперативно закуповуються й доставляються вода, напої, охолоджувачі, солодощі, кава - те, що бодай трішки полегшує суворі умови.

«Так ми дякуємо нашим захисникам - присутністю, допомогою, молитвою», - говорить один із волонтерів Донецького регіону. «Ми знаємо, хто з нами. Для нас дії УПЦ США - це світло у темряві».

Ця допомога особлива не лише масштабом, а й джерелом - вона йде не просто від інституції, а від Церкви, яка живе Євангелієм. Вірні УПЦ США - як миряни, так і духовенство - об’єдналися в щедрості, перетворюючи молитву й любов на конкретні вчинки милосердя.

«Сьогодні Церква - це не лише молитва», - наголошує митрополит Сергій. - «Це жива віра в дії. Любити Бога - означає служити ближньому, бо кожна людина носить у собі образ Божий».

Під час недавньої роздачі гуманітарної допомоги у хабі «Доброго ранку - ми з Маріуполя», сотні родин отримали продуктові пакети та подарунки для дітей. Їхні усмішки й молитви - це найщиріша відповідь на цю любов.

«Разом ми - сила. Разом ми - надія», - підкреслює архієпископ Даниїл. - «Навіть у пекельну спеку серце, наповнене любов’ю, гріє сильніше. Не втомлюймося творити добро. Несімо один одного на руках - бо несемо самого Христа».

До всіх людей доброї волі звучить щирий заклик: не залишайтеся байдужими. УПЦ США та її партнери в Україні закликають - приєднуйтесь до цього святого діла милосердя.

«Господь сказав: «Голодним Я був - і ви Мене нагодували… чужинцем був - і прийняли Мене» (Мт. 25:35). Це не притча - це наша щоденна дійсність», - стверджує архієпископ Даниїл. - «Вашими молитвами, пожертвами, підтримкою ми стаємо руками Христа, Його голосом, Його милосердям».

Нехай кожен дар любові стане хрестом надії для тих, хто несе хрест болю, страху й втрати. Нехай кожне діло милосердя стане живою сторінкою Євангелія, яку Церква пише сьогодні - в час темряви.

І нехай стражденний народ України знає - він не забутий. Разом з Богом - ми служимо, надіємось і перемагаємо.
