At a time when the world continues to witness the tragedy of war in Ukraine, the ministry of mercy carried out by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America continues without interruption. Wherever human suffering meets hope, wherever loneliness seeks comfort, and wherever despair longs for the light of Christ’s love, the Church remains faithful to its calling - to be a living witness of God's presence among His people.

One such place is a nursing home for the elderly - a place where time seems to slow its pace. Here, the air carries a profound silence, heavy with memories, losses, and life’s many trials. Every room preserves a unique human story. Within these walls live people of many different backgrounds and experiences: those who have endured years of hardship and labor, those who have lost their memories to dementia and no longer recognize their loved ones, those confined to their beds, and those who have been left entirely alone, abandoned by family or separated from them by the tragedy of war.

Visits to such places remind us of one of the most essential virtues of Christian life - mercy. Sometimes a simple act of attention, a sincere conversation, a gentle word, or merely holding someone's hand can restore to a person the feeling that they are still needed, that their life still matters, and that they have not been forgotten.

It was with this purpose that, through the support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, Archpriest Kostiantyn Kuznetsov, Dean of the Donetsk Deanery of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, together with his wife Natalia, their son Dmytro, and a group of dedicated volunteers, visited a nursing home for the elderly. They brought food, hygiene supplies, adult diapers for bedridden residents, and other essential necessities.

Yet the greatest gift offered to these elderly residents was not material assistance, but human presence, heartfelt attention, and emotional support. Listening to their life stories, sharing their joys and sorrows, and praying with them, the volunteers brought comfort and reminded them that they are loved and valued.

As Archbishop Daniel reflected: “In every human being - especially in those who are lonely, frail, and suffering - we are called to recognize the image of God. When we visit those whom society often overlooks, we encounter Christ Himself, Who said: ‘As you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ I express my heartfelt gratitude to Father Kostiantyn, his family, and all the volunteers for their sacrificial love and tireless ministry to the elderly.”

The ministry of mercy also continues in the community of Pavlohrad, which has become an important center of support for internally displaced persons.

Hundreds of people have been forced to flee their homes because of the war. Many have arrived from Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Kostiantynivka, and other cities that remain under constant threat of attack.

Here, Father Kostiantyn Kuznetsov and his team provide humanitarian, social, and psychological assistance to people who have lost their homes, stability, and way of life. They help displaced families adapt to new circumstances, providing food, essential supplies, and emotional support.

What makes this ministry particularly meaningful is that it is carried out not merely as a duty, but with genuine love and compassion.

Archbishop Daniel noted: “Mercy knows no borders and asks no questions about a person's background or social standing. Wherever there is human suffering, the Church must be present. This is why we continue to support our brothers and sisters who, because of war, have lost everything except their hope in God.”

A special focus of this humanitarian ministry remains Kharkiv - the heroic city that endures relentless attacks from Russian aggression every day.

Despite the danger, Kharkiv has become a refuge for thousands fleeing the horrors of war. They left behind their homes, possessions, and former lives in order to save their children and loved ones.

In these difficult circumstances, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, with the blessing of Metropolitan Antony, Prime Hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, and in cooperation with Metropolitan Serhii of Donetsk of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, continues to deliver humanitarian assistance through the ministry of Father Kostiantyn and his team.

The latest shipments include food packages, personal hygiene products, and essential supplies for affected residents and internally displaced persons.

Each package represents far more than material aid.

It is a tangible expression of love, solidarity, and care.

“Every humanitarian package provides not only bread for the body but also hope for the soul. It reminds our people that they have not been abandoned in their suffering. It is a sign that Orthodox faithful on both sides of the ocean remain one spiritual family,” Archbishop Daniel emphasized.

A particularly important aspect of this ministry remains the care of elderly individuals and those who require constant assistance because of illness or disability.

Together with his son Dmytro and volunteer Natalia, Father Kostiantyn regularly visits those who are most in need. They deliver food, adult diapers, hygiene products, and other necessities.

Volunteers prepare humanitarian packages weighing more than 15 kilograms, which are distributed to families facing the greatest hardships.

For many recipients, this is not merely aid.

It is the opportunity to make it through another week without fear of going hungry or lacking basic necessities.

It is a reminder that someone still cares.

All of these initiatives have been made possible through the sacrificial generosity of the clergy and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. With the blessing of Metropolitan Antony and under the spiritual leadership of Archbishop Daniel, substantial humanitarian assistance continues to reach those affected by the war.

For many Ukrainians, this support means far more than food or medical supplies. It restores a sense of dignity, security, and confidence that they have not been forgotten.

In closing, Archbishop Daniel offered these words of gratitude: “On behalf of Metropolitan Antony, the clergy, and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, I extend sincere gratitude to Father Kostiantyn Kuznetsov, Dobrodiyka Natalia, Dmytro, and all the volunteers who serve daily amid the hardships of war. Your hands have become the hands of Christ’s mercy. Your ministry reminds all of us that God’s love continues to work even among the ruins of war. May the Lord strengthen you, grant you health, wisdom, and endurance, and bless you abundantly as you continue this sacred mission.”

When explosions echo across the land, homes are destroyed, and lives are shattered, these acts of mercy become a living testimony to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They remind us that the Church is called not only to preach love, but to manifest it through concrete acts of compassion.

As long as there are people willing to extend a helping hand, as long as there are hearts open to mercy and sacrifice, the light of Christ's love will continue to overcome the darkness of war.

For love is stronger than fear. Love is stronger than loneliness. Love is stronger than war.

У час, коли світ продовжує спостерігати за трагедією війни в Україні, служіння милосердя Української Православної Церкви Сполучених Штатів Америки не припиняється ні на день. Там, де людський біль зустрічається з надією, де самотність шукає розради, а зневіра потребує світла Христової любові, Церква продовжує нести своє покликання - бути живим свідченням Божої присутності серед людей.

Одним із таких місць став будинок для людей похилого віку - місце, де час ніби сповільнює свій хід. Тут у повітрі відчувається особлива тиша, важка від спогадів, пережитих втрат і життєвих випробувань. Кожна кімната зберігає окрему людську історію. За цими стінами живуть люди з різними долями: ті, хто пережив важкі роки праці й випробувань, ті, хто через хвороби втратив пам’ять і вже не впізнає близьких, ті, хто прикуті до ліжка, а також ті, хто залишився зовсім самотнім, покинутим родиною або розлученим із нею війною.

Відвідини таких закладів нагадують нам про одну з найважливіших чеснот християнського життя - милосердя. Адже інколи звичайна увага, щира розмова, лагідне слово чи просте тримання за руку можуть повернути людині відчуття того, що вона й досі потрібна цьому світові, що її життя має цінність і що вона не забута.

Саме з цією метою, за підтримки Української Православної Церкви США, благочинний Донецького деканату Православної Церкви України протоієрей Костянтин Кузнецов разом зі своєю дружиною Наталією, сином Дмитром та помічниками відвідав будинок для людей похилого віку. Вони привезли продукти харчування, засоби гігієни, підгузки для лежачих хворих та інші необхідні речі.

Проте найціннішим подарунком для стареньких стали не матеріальні речі, а людська присутність, щира увага та психологічна підтримка. Вислуховуючи життєві історії мешканців, розділяючи їхні переживання та молячись разом із ними, волонтери дарували людям відчуття любові та турботи.

Як зазначив архієпископ Даниїл: «У кожній людині, особливо в самотній, немічній та стражденній, ми покликані бачити образ Божий. Відвідуючи тих, кого суспільство часто не помічає, ми торкаємося самого Христа, Який сказав: “Що ви зробили одному з найменших братів Моїх - Мені зробили”. Висловлюю щиру вдячність отцю Костянтину, його родині та всім помічникам за їхню жертовну любов і невтомне служіння людям похилого віку.»

Служіння милосердя продовжується і в Павлоградській громаді, яка стала одним із важливих центрів підтримки внутрішньо переміщених осіб.

Сотні людей були змушені залишити свої домівки через війну. Багато хто прибув сюди з Краматорська, Слов’янська, Костянтинівки та інших міст, що опинилися під постійною загрозою обстрілів.

Тут команда отця Костянтина Кузнецова забезпечує гуманітарну, соціальну та психологічну допомогу людям, які пережили втрату дому, стабільності та звичного способу життя. Вони допомагають переселенцям адаптуватися до нових умов, надають продукти, засоби першої необхідності та моральну підтримку.

Особливо важливо, що ця праця здійснюється не формально, а з щирою любов’ю до людей.

Архієпископ Даниїл зазначає: «Милосердя не знає кордонів і не ставить запитань про походження чи соціальний статус людини. Там, де є людський біль, має бути присутня Церква. Саме тому ми продовжуємо підтримувати наших братів і сестер, які через війну втратили все, окрім надії на Бога.»

Особливе місце у гуманітарному служінні посідає Харків - місто-герой, яке щоденно витримує жорстокі удари російської агресії.

Попри небезпеку, Харків став прихистком для тисяч людей, які тікали від жахів війни. Вони залишали свої домівки, майно, звичне життя та вирушали в невідомість, рятуючи своїх дітей і близьких.

У таких умовах Українська Православна Церква США, за благословенням Митрополита Антонія, Предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви США, та у співпраці з Митрополитом Сергієм Донецьким Православної Церкви України, продовжує доставляти гуманітарну допомогу через служіння отця Костянтина та його команди.

Чергові партії допомоги включають продуктові набори, засоби особистої гігієни та предмети першої необхідності для постраждалих мешканців і внутрішньо переміщених осіб.

Кожен такий пакунок є значно більшим, ніж просто набір продуктів.

Він є свідченням любові, солідарності та турботи.

«Кожен гуманітарний пакунок - це не лише хліб для тіла, але й надія для душі. Це нагадування нашим людям, що вони не залишені наодинці зі своїм болем. Це знак того, що православні вірні по обидва боки океану є однією великою духовною родиною», - наголошує архієпископ Даниїл.

Особливою частиною гуманітарного служіння залишається опіка над літніми людьми та тими, хто через хвороби потребує постійного догляду.

Разом із сином Дмитром та добродійкою Наталією отець Костянтин продовжує регулярно відвідувати людей, які найбільше потребують підтримки. Для них доставляються продукти харчування, підгузки, засоби гігієни та інші необхідні речі.

Волонтери формують гуманітарні набори вагою понад 15 кілограмів, які отримують найбільш нужденні родини.

Для багатьох це не просто допомога.

Це можливість пережити ще один тиждень без страху залишитися без їжі чи необхідних засобів догляду.

Це знак того, що про них пам’ятають.

Усі ці численні ініціативи стали можливими завдяки жертовній підтримці духовенства та вірних Української Православної Церкви США. За благословенням Митрополита Антонія та під духовним керівництвом архієпископа Даниїла тисячі доларів гуманітарної допомоги щомісяця спрямовуються на підтримку людей, які постраждали від війни.

Для багатьох українців ця допомога означає не лише продукти чи ліки. Вона повертає відчуття безпеки, гідності та впевненості в тому, що вони не залишилися наодинці зі своїми труднощами.

На завершення архієпископ Даниїл звернувся зі словами вдячності: «Від імені Митрополита Антонія, духовенства та вірних Української Православної Церкви США висловлюю щиру подяку отцю Костянтину Кузнецову, добродійці Наталії, Дмитру та всім волонтерам, які щоденно служать людям у зоні війни. Ваші руки стали руками милосердя Христового. Ваше служіння нагадує всім нам, що любов Божа продовжує діяти навіть серед руїн війни. Нехай Господь укріплює вас, дарує сили, здоров’я та натхнення продовжувати цю святу місію.»

Коли навколо лунають вибухи, руйнуються домівки та ламаються людські долі, саме такі справи милосердя стають живим свідченням Євангелія. Вони нагадують нам, що Церква Христова покликана не лише проповідувати любов, але й являти її через конкретні вчинки.

І поки є люди, готові простягнути руку допомоги ближньому, поки є серця, відкриті для співчуття і жертовності, доти світло Христової любові продовжуватиме перемагати темряву війни.

Бо любов сильніша за страх. Любов сильніша за самотність. Любов сильніша за війну.
