In the quiet of temporary shelters - places where children now live, wounded by war not in body but in heart - a special prayer is born. It has no words. It lives in their eyes. In a timid smile. In small hands that cling to a heart-shaped pillow as if holding onto hope itself.

Recently, the local priest from the Kramatorsk area, Fr. Serhii Kramarenko, together with Fr. Maks Kuznetsov, visited children who are currently living in a shelter. These are children whose young hearts already know what they should never have to know: fear instead of peace, the thunder of shelling instead of a lullaby, pain instead of carefree childhood.

They brought the children heart-shaped pillows. It may seem like a small thing. Yet when a child presses that heart to their chest and quietly smiles, one understands: sometimes God touches the soul through the simplest of gifts.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).

These hearts, above all others, need protection today - so that pain does not become their future, so that wounds do not harden into character, so that fear does not become normal.

Saint John Chrysostom reminds us: “There is nothing stronger than love. It heals what no physician can touch.”

This love became action through the sacrificial support of the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, who opened their hearts to the needs of the smallest and most vulnerable. With the blessing and constant support of Archbishop Daniel, and through the cooperation of the Metropolia of the UOC-USA and compassionate donors, help reaches where it is needed most - children.

Archbishop Daniel has repeatedly emphasized: “When we extend our hand to a child wounded by war, we extend our hand to Christ Himself. Love strengthened by action is the strongest witness of our faith.”

He further adds: “Sacrifice and compassion are not extraordinary feats reserved for a few; they are the daily calling of every Christian. I thank Fr. Serhii for his devotion, love, and tireless care for these children, for whom he has become a true father in a time of trial.”

In response, Fr. Serhii shares with humility and gratitude: “I sincerely thank the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, Metropolitan Antony, Archbishop Daniel, and all the faithful and benefactors - even those who are not members of our parishes. Your love is felt here, among the children. They know they are remembered, they are loved, they are not alone.”

It is hard to find words when you look into the eyes of a child who has lost a home.

Not a toy. Not a room. But a home - the place where they were safe, where they were awaited, where they were loved.

Fr. Serhii reflects: “Today we stood beside children who fled from Kramatorsk, from Mezhova, from towns and villages that tremble daily under enemy shelling. They left behind their beds, their yards, the windows through which they once looked at life - and now they carry their entire childhood in a single suitcase.”

We cannot give them their home back. We cannot stop the missiles. But we can give warmth.

Thanks to the kind hearts of the UOC-USA, the children received blankets to keep them warm, bananas and mandarins to remind them - if only for a moment - of the taste of a normal childhood, and most importantly, human warmth that heals better than any medicine.

Saint John Chrysostom teaches: “There is nothing stronger than mercy; it opens the heavens.”

And Saint Basil the Great reminds us all: “The bread you keep belongs to the hungry; the clothes in your closet belong to the naked; the warmth you do not give belongs to the one who is cold.”

Christ Himself was a Refugee. He fled with His parents, without a home - and therefore He is closest to every child who has lost their shelter. Blessed Augustine wrote: “God is closest to the one who is in pain.”

The war continues. Human lives are shattered. Children suffer - through no fault of their own. And for this very reason, it is our sacred duty as Christians to love, to care, and to remain present.

Heartfelt gratitude goes out to all donors, benefactors, and faithful who have already become part of this mission of mercy. Every blanket, every gift, every donation is a step toward healing a child’s heart and a brick in the future home these children will one day build - without war, with peace, with God.

Українська Православна Церква США несе тепло і надію дітям, які втратили затишок дому

У тиші тимчасових притулків - шелтерів, де сьогодні мешкають діти, поранені війною не тілом, а серцем, народжується особлива молитва. Вона без слів. У погляді. У несміливій усмішці. У маленьких руках, що обіймають подароване серце-подушку так, ніби тримають надію.

Нещодавно, місцевий священник околиці Крамвторська отець Сергій Крамаренко, та о. Максом Кузнєцовим, відвідали дітей, які на даний час живуть у шелтері. Дітей, чиї маленькі серця вже знають те, чого не повинні знати ніколи: страх замість спокою, гуркіт обстрілів замість колискової, біль замість безтурботності.

Вонии привезли їм подушки у формі серця. Здавалося б - дрібниця. Але коли дитина притискає це серце до грудей і тихо усміхається, розумієш: іноді Бог торкається душі через прості речі.

«Більше всього бережи серце своє, бо з нього походить життя» (Притчі 4:23).

Саме ці серця сьогодні потребують особливого захисту - щоб біль не став їхнім майбутнім, щоб рана не перетворилася на характер, щоб страх не став нормою.

Святий Іоан Золотоустий нагадує: «Немає нічого сильнішого за любов. Вона лікує те, чого не може торкнутися жоден лікар».

Ця любов стала дією завдяки жертовній підтримці вірних Українська Православна Церква США, які з відкритим серцем відгукнулися на потреби найменших. З благословення і за постійної підтримки Архієпископа Даниїла, через співпрацю Митрополій УПЦ США та небайдужих жертводавців, допомога доходить туди, де вона найбільш потрібна - до дітей.

Архієпископ Даниїл неодноразово підкреслює: «Коли ми простягаємо руку дитині, що постраждала від війни, -ми простягаємо руку Самому Христові. Любов, підкріплена дією, є найсильнішим свідченням нашої віри».

І ще раз наголошує: «Жертовність і співчуття - це не надзвичайний подвиг для обраних, а щоденний обов’язок християнина. Дякую отцю Сергію за його відданість, любов і невтомну опіку над дітьми, яким він став справжнім батьком у час випробувань».

У відповідь отець Сергій зі смиренням і вдячністю ділиться: «Я щиро дякую Українській Православній Церкві США, Митрополиту Антонію та Архієпископу Даниїлу та всім вірним і жертводавцям - навіть тим, хто не є нашими парафіянами. Ваша любов відчутна тут, серед дітей. Вони знають: про них пам’ятають, їх люблять, вони не самі».

Важко знайти слова, коли дивишся в очі дитині, яка втратила дім. Не іграшку. Не кімнату. А дім - місце, де було безпечно, де чекали і любили.

Отець Сергій розповідає: «Сьогодні ми були поруч із діточками, які виїхали з Краматорська, з Межової, з міст і селищ, що щодня здригаються від обстрілів окупантів. Вони залишили свої ліжка, подвір’я, вікна, з яких дивилися на життя, і тепер везуть усе своє дитинство в одній валізі.»

Ми не можемо повернути їм дім. Ми не можемо зупинити ракети. Але ми можемо дати тепло.

Завдяки добрим серцям з УПЦ США цього дня діти отримали покривалв - щоб зігрітися, банани й мандарини -щоб бодай на мить відчути смак нормального дитинства, і найголовніше - людське тепло, яке лікує краще за будь-які ліки.

Святий Іоан Золотоустий каже: «Немає нічого сильнішого за милосердя: воно відкриває небеса».

А святий Василій Великий нагадує нам усім: «Хліб, який ти зберігаєш, належить голодному; одяг у шафі -  нагому; тепло, яке ти не віддав, - тому, хто мерзне».

Христос Сам був Біженцем. Він утікав з батьками, не маючи дому, і тому Він - найближчий до кожної дитини, що втратила свою оселю. Блаженний Августин писав: «Бог ближчий до того, кому болить».

Війна триває. Людські життя покалічені. Діти страждають - не з власної вини. І саме тому наш святий обов’язок як християн - любити, піклуватися, бути поруч.

Щира подяка всім жертводавцям, благодійникам і вірним, які вже стали частиною цієї місії милосердя. Кожен плед, кожен подарунок, кожна пожертва - це крок до зцілення дитячого серця і цеглина в майбутній дім, який ці діти обов’язково збудують. Без війни. З миром. З Богом.
