CHURCH SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP AT ST. VLADIMIR’S CATHEDRAL PHILADELPHIA, PA

The first annual Church School Summer Camp took place June 28 & 29. Wow, what a terrific two days in the life of our parish! Little campers gathered for 2 full days filed with worship, fellowship and fun. The camp was opened with a special “prayer for students” led by Fr. Taras Naumenko who also talked to children about the Cross – the tree of life, which was the theme of this year’s camping program. The children learned about the importance and meaning of the cross in Christianity and with a large wall cross as an example Fr. Taras explained what each depiction on the cross represents. The children made cross magnets, necklaces and key chains during the hour of arts & crafts.

One of the activities planned for camp was swimming. But unfortunately the weather did not cooperate (we will have a special swim outing in August). Instead of swimming campers enjoyed a baking class. Everyone got to make and decorate cupcakes and took a plate of baked goods for their family to enjoy.

We had some quiet time and read stories, watched “Veggie Tails” and learned a song. And of course what is a camp without some outdoor fun and games?! We divided in two teams and played dodge ball, Leap for the Lord, egg drop, water balloons and other exciting games.

Our field trip was to the beautiful Philadelphia Zoo. Some of the parents and grandparents joined us and we loved having them! Thanks to Ms. Maria Holubowsky for the endless snacks that children enjoyed very much. At the Zoo we got a private tour to many exhibits thanks to Sibby Medicus. The camp concluded with make your own Sundae and balloons. We thank all participants and volunteers without whom this important ministry would not be possible: Tania Peltekis, Andrea Swan and Victor Holubowsky. Our field trip chaperones: Ella Trakimas, Lynn Nemeth, Anna Ley and Maria Holubowsky.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, care and support. It is important to note, that when children were asked about the camp – everyone said they loved it and hoped to have it again and again and again.
