Chicago Deanery Holds Its Annual Lenten Retreat!

Chicago Deanery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA Holds Its Annual Lenten Retreat!

On Wednesday, 13 April 2011 the clergy of the Chicago Deanery of the Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA gathered with their spiritual father and the ruling hierarch of the Western Eparchy His Grace Bishop Daniel for the annual Lenten Deanery Retreat at which they prayed together, shared in Agape meal, and reflected upon the parish life of the numerous communities of the Deanery.

The meeting took place at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church ion Bensenville, IL, the membership of which numerously attended the Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts concelebrated by the bishop and the clergy of the Deanery: Very Rev. Bohdan Kalynuk – pastor of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Bensenville, IL; Archimandrite Pankratij – pastor of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, IL; Very Rev. Pavlo Bodnarchuk – pastor of Protection of the Mother of God Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Southfield, MI; Rev. Fr. Walter Hwostik – pastor of Annunciation of the Birth-Giver of God Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Milwaukee, WI; Rev. Fr. Vasyl Sendeha – pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Palos Park, IL; Rev. Fr. Silouan Rolando – pastor of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Goshen, IN; Very Rev. Fr. Andriy Shelvakh and Rev. Fr. Taras Maximtsev,  as well as Protodeacon Mykola Dilendorf and Protodeacon Andriy Fronchak of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, IL and Deacon James Stickle of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Goshen, IN. Very Rev. Fr. Bohdan Kalynuk, pastor of the host parish and a Dean of Chicago Deanery welcomed the clergy and the faithful of his deanery to the parish family and the prayer service, while the parish sisterhood kindly hosted everyone by a Lenten meal.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy of Presancified Gifts, Rev. Fr. Vasyl Sendeha of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Palos Park, IL offered a short reflection on the meaning of Lent and the impact of it on a spiritual journey of an individual. In addition, Vladyka Daniel expressed his gratitude to the attending clergy and the faithful for their participation and support of the various ministries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and especially the work of the Deanery. The parish choir prayerfully chanted the responses to the Lenten service.

Following the Liturgical celebration and the Lenten meal, the clergy gathered for their meeting, addressing the vital issues in the life of the Church and putting into place plans for the entire year of ministry in the Name of Christ. Some of the events that will be sponsored by the Deanery are: spiritual outing to a local Serbian Orthodox Monastery; Altar servers Retreat; a prayer service for the victims of the Chornobyl Nuclear Disaster in April 25th at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Chicago, IL; Deanery Holy Unction service on Holy Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Palos Park, IL; Holy Thursday service and the annual Rite of the Washing of Feet at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox cathedral in Chicago, IL; pilgrimage to Mt. Athos – spiritual pantheon of Holy Orthodoxy; establishment of a Seminary Day in the Deanery with an annual picnic; benefiting St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary; encounters in local parishes with the director of the Consistory Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry; participation in the annual Clergy Retreat in October of this year; scheduling of the parochial feast days with archpastoral visitation; organizing events to familiarize the membership of the Church with the ministry of the Historical and Education Complex of Patriarch Mstyslav of blessed memory at the Metropolia Center in South Bound Brook, NJ, etc. The clergy offered their support to His Grace Bishop Daniel following his recent hospitalization and rejoiced in various plans of ministry that His Grace shared with his priests and through them with the faithful of the Deanery.

The bishop reminded his clergy of their pastoral administrative responsibilities and encouraged the re-evangelization efforts in all of the parishes of Chicago Deanery. Each priest had a chance to share in a frank conversation with the bishop and his fellow brothers in Christ, addressing the modern day challenge of secularization and the ways the Church might confront the world of the 21st century with the ever-renewing Word of God. Closing the working session, the clergy unanimously, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Daniel, elected the following clergy to various positions in the life of Chicago Deanery: Very Rev. Bohdan Kalynuk – Dean; Rev. Fr. Vasyl Sendeha – Treasurer; Rev. Fr. Taras Maximtsev – Secretary.

While the day concluded with the prayer, the clergy remained at the parish until the late hours of the day sharing in each other’s fellowship. The next meeting is to take place at Holy Archangel Michael Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Hammond, IN at the discretion of the ruling hierarch.

Чікагський деканат Української Православної Церкви США провів річні постові реколекції!

У середу 13 квітня 2011 року духовенство Чікагського деканату Західньої Єпархії Української Православної Церкви в США зібралось зі своїм духовним отцем і правлячим ієрархом Західньої Єпархії Преосвященнішим єпископом Даниїлом на річній постовій деканатській зустрічі, на якій вони молилися разом, мали спільну трапезу, та обговорювали парафіяльне життя багатьох парафій деканату.

Зустріч відбулася у Свято-Троїцькій Українській Православній Церкві у Бенсенвіл, ІЛ. Багато із парафіян цієї парафії прийшли на Літургію Ранішосвячених Дарів на якій служили єпископ та духовенство деканату: прот. Богдан Калинюк — настоятель Свято-Троїцької Української Православної парафії у Бенсенвіл, ІЛ; архімандрит Панкратій — настоятель Свято-Володимирської Української Православної Катедри у Чікаго, ІЛ; прот. Павло Боднарчук — настоятель Свято-Покровської Української Православної катедри у Саутфілд, МІ; о. Володимир Хвостик — настоятель Благовіщення Пресвятої Богородиці Української Православної парафії у Мілвокі, ВІ; о. Василь Сендега — настоятель Свв. Петра і Павла Української Православної парафії у Палос Парк, ІЛ; о. Сілуан Роландо — настоятель Свято-Троїцької Української Православної парафії у Ґошен, ІН; прот. Андрій Шельвах та о. Тарас Махімцев, а також протодиякон Микола Ділендорф та протодиякон Андрій Фрончак Свято-Володимирської Української Православної катедри у Чікаґо, ІЛ і диякон Яків Стикл Свято-Троїцької Української Православної парафії у Ґошен, ІН. Прот. Богдан Калинюк настоятель парафії де проводилась зустріч та декан Чікаґського Деканату запросив духовенство та вірних його деканату до парафії та молитви, а також сестрицтво парафії пригощали всіх пісним обідом.

Наприкінці Літургії Ранішосвячених Дарів, о. Василь Сендега із Свв. Петра і Павла Української Православної парафії у Палос Парк, ІЛ проповідував на тему Значення посту та його вплив на духовну подорож християнина. Владика Даниїл висловив свою подяку присутнім: духовенству та вірним за їхню участь та підтримку різних робіт Української Православної Церкви в США, а особливо роботу деканату. Парафіяльний хор молитовно співав під час постової служби.

Після літургійного святкування та обіду, духовенство зібралося для обговорення життєво важливих питань у житті Церкви та планування проектів у ім'я Христа на цілий рік. Одними з подій котрі будуть проведені деканатом є: паломництво до місцевого Православного Сербського монастиря; з'їзд церковних прислужників; молитовна служба за жертв Чорнобильської Атомної Катастрофи 25 квітня у Свято-Володимирській Українській  Православній катедрі, Чікаґо, ІЛ; Чин Маслосвяття у Велику Середу у парафії свв. Петра і Павла, Палос Парк, ІЛ; у Великий Четвер Чин вмивання ніг у Свято-Володимирській Українській Православній катедрі, Чікаґо, ІЛ; паломництво на гору Афон — духовний центр святого Православ'я; заснування дня семінарії у деканаті із річним пікніком на користь Свято-Софіївської Української Православної Семінарії; зустрічі місцевих парафій з головою відділу консисторії Молоді та юнацтва; участь на річній Конференції Духовенства у жовтні цього року; планування парафіяльних свят із участю єпископа; організація подій для ознайомлення членів Церкви із роботою Історично-Наукового Комплексу ім. Патріарха Мстислава при Центрі Митрополії у Саут Баунд Брук, Н.Дж., і інші. Духовенство висловило слова щирої підтримки Преосвященнішому єпископу Даниїлу під час його перебування у лікарні та були задоволені планами робіт, якими поділився владика з священиками, а через них з вірними деканату.

Єпископ нагадав духовенству про їхні душ-пастирські адміністративні відповідальності і підбадьорив їх у проповідуванні Євангелія у всіх парафіях Чікаґського деканату. Кожен священик мав можливість поділитися у дружньому колі єпископа та братів священиків із тими сучасними проблемами секуляризації та можливостями Церкви щоб протистояти світові 21 століття з завжди оновленим Словом Божим. Завершуючи свою зустріч, духовенство з благословення Преосвященнішого єпископа Даниїла, одноголосно вибрали наступних членів духовенства на такі позиції при Чікаґському деканаті: прот. Богдан Калинюк — декан; о. Василь Сендега — скарбник; о. Тарас Максимців — секретар.

Після кінцевої молитви духовенство залишилось на парафії до пізньої години, ділячись новинами та враженнями. Наступна зустріч відбудеться у Українській Православній парафії святого Архістратига Михаїла у Гаммонд, ІН у час зазначений правлячим ієрархом.
